What is the difference and can a 4l60e handle the power of a Trans am or camaro?

CMON!!!!! I know someone knows this.... i just need a quick fix for now until i have the money to get a really nice tranny..... my dad knows someone with a wrecked tahoe and he was going to sell the transmission for 200 dollars nothing wrong with it and it has 90000......so if it fits.....and works fine.... with little modification... then good.....then i will be able to drive it and save for something good....but for now......i need a quick fix

The 4L60E in a tahoe or surburban are the same as the ones in a trans am or camaro. The only cars that carry a 4L65E are The 6.0 trucks like the Denali, Escalade and Hummers. The main difference on a 4l65e and a 4l60e are that the 4l65e has 5 pinion front and rear planets, and the 3-4 frictions have 7 and kolene steels on the 4l65e and 6 frictions on the 4l60e. The 4l65e was designed to be stronger, but a 4l60e built right can hold up to a lot of power.

The trans off the tahoe will work if it has the right input shaft.(some tahoes and surbubans used the lt1 input shaft and converter instead of the ls1. I think the started using the ls1 input shaft on 2003-on )

4x4 unit wont work unless you change the output shaft ( you must take the trans apart) and add the exsisting tail housing off your old trans

Yes, what xtremetrans says about output shaft and tailshaft is correct. You would be better off finding a 4x2 transmission. Not sure if 4L65E came on any 4x2 truck.

I think the GTO's 05-06 also came with the 4L65E...

Please don't post on 9 year old or even 3 year old threads.
It wastes the time of everyone active in that section.
