Default Powerglide with 408???...

I've done the search and gotten some info but wanted to know if anyone is running a Big inch nitrous LS1 with a glide and a taller gear. I've run glides in all my mustangs BUT they are <2800lbs with equal power. My car is 3500lbs with a 3.50 gear(9") 408(500RWHP) and a 150hp worth of nitrous.I'm currently pulling my second BUILT TH400 and have a glide with dedenbear case,1.76's, and turbo shaft so I can use my same converter. I would like to leave the tall gear in as it is a freqently driven street car. I know the car will be fine on nitrous but how bad is it gonna kill it on motor? Anyone have a similar combo? Thanks in advance.

It will rely heavily on where that converter stalls. I think you'll loose 2-3 tenths on motor IF the converter is set for motor and stalls AT the torque peak. If it's a 3000 stall on motor my guess is you'll loose .5-.7 seconds of ET on motor. The 60 foot will suffer big time. I just ran into this. Tall gear/tight converter make for a great street setup. Another option is another set of slicks. SHORTER tire for N/A racing. Example. My car went 11.20's with a 5000 stall. With a 3000 stall it goes 11.80's. On the hose it blew through the 5000 stall and ran 10.60's. With the 3000 stall it went 10.40's. It took advantage of the torque that the hose made for sure.

I think it's fun on the street. 60-140 with no shifting. Just high gear.

Did the th400 break or are you just feeling a change is needed? My experience is the same as above, usually 2-3 tenths NA will be lost. I would rather have a glide over my th400, just personal preference.

Too heavy for a glide. Your going to need a lot more hose and gear {4.56} if you want to run the glide. Your better off with the 400 at that weight. The converter stall speeds / fall back are different too. With a glide you typically want your stall speed to fall 1200 rpm's lower than your max shift rpm and with a 3 spd it's more like 1500 rpm's lower than your max shift rpm's. Too bad you don't have a th350 laying around, nice and light, easy to convert to torrington brearings, and will also run your converters.
