It wont really slow you down any infact with the higher stall you might be a bit faster, However if this is a car you enjoy driving thats a different story, The loss of overdrive and lockup will cost you about 30 percent more gas use, At $4 a gallon they are expecting this summer dont know about you but for me it would end up a trailered drag car, Why not just put a 4000 stall in the 60e ?

I agree, Unless you plan on going drag only with the car i would get the 4L60E rebuilt and put a 4000 stall in it and still cruise.

Good advice here... unless you are putting down in excess of 700 RWHP I would not consider the 350.

Well I would recommend giving a few of the Sponsors here a call. I believe in proper planning for the short term and for the long term. By talking to Professionals in the course of a few conversations you'll begin to better understand the direction you should go. Take your time and decide which way is the best way to go in the long run.

I'm in the process of switching from my th350 to a th400. I cracked the case on the 350 and decided to go bigger. This is only on a heads / cam / 100 shot nitrous car. I was told by many people that the th350 would hold up but I wasn't about to put another case around my existing pieces for it just to crack again. I was only getting about 11 mpg with my th350 but I only put 5000 miles a year on so who cares about gas mileage.

With 700hp I would steer clear of a 4l60e unless you want to change it often.

Do what you want to do. A th350/400 is an awesome trans. You will lose a little mileage, but if you're not driving cross country daily who cares. I kept my 4L60 in 3rd around town anyways because I didn't like when it would lock up in overdrive at 35 mph and lug around at 1100rpm.

Believe it or not, people did drive cars daily before the over drive was invented.

I ran one of my 4l60e in my TA for a few years at 800+rwhp, I used alot of converter company's with that trans as well, The best i was able to run was a 9.49@144 with a FTI converter No other converter company got me within 2 tenths of that number, The car made well over 200 passes at 6.30 or better 1/8 with a best of 6.08@118. The car was at 3770lbs for over a year, we removed the ac and radio and a few other things to get the car down to 3650 to run its best number.
We then done a th350 swap with a 5200 FTI nitrous converter and went from a 28" tire to a 30" tire at the same time, we drove this car every day and needed some gear tio criuse with, every thing else was the same,
Here was the results from the swap at about 850rwhp (300 shot) and on motor

4l60e N/A best was 1.44 60ft 6.76@102
TH350 N/A best was 1.51 60ft 6.62@105

4l60e best n20 pass was 1.322 60ft 6.08@118
Th350 best n20 was 1.34 5.88@122

we only ran the 1/4 twice with the th350 one pass was a 9.21@146 and the other was a 9.40@149 with a 1.76 60ft it spun bad lol

That my story lol
