Depends... You got a lift? I just installed mine over spring break in my driveway on ramps and jackstands and it took me a few good hours. First time to work on my car so i wasnt familiar with everything like i was with my last ride. You'll have to let the tranny drop some so you get to the top bellhousing bolts. Probably have to remove part of your exhaust for this. Be careful removing the bellhousing from your old tranny not to strip the star or hex bolts. Whatever they are... Some heat will do the trick with those.

I would definatley do it your self. When i was 17 i used to swap my a4 completley by myself in about 8hrs. Out- lil over 3 hours, In-maybe 5, and im a little guy (about 115lbs at the time). a shop might charge anywhere from 500 to maybe even over a grand for install, not too sure tho.

I just did mine a few weeks ago and it took me a full day. Seems like some people work rediculously fast compared to me but I like to be thorough.

I tried to do mine in my driveway and after two days, couldn't do it and go frustrated, so I took it to a shop payed 380 for them to install it and crack the cooler lines and leave me leaking fluid for over a week on a brand new built tranny. They fixed it right away though. I am just saying that I don't think I will ever try to do it again without a lift.

I was able to do a complete swap in under three hours. It was also my first time swapping a transmission. It took two hours for removal. This was from driving it on the lift, unhooking any lines, unbolting all bolts, to setting the tranny on the floor, to parking it for the night. I also had the help of a friend but we were able to get the tranny back in in under an hour the next day. Also consider that this was in a 3rd gen with a 700r4 so things may have been a little different.

Just make sure when you put it back in that the converter is completely seated. I made this mistake and when tightening down the bellhousing i heard crack crack crack. So that means all that work for nothing. Had to go back, drop the trans again, get the pump replaced, then reinstall again. Just make sure its seated all the way, will save a lot of headaches. Also, make sure you re-attach all connections to the trans before you bolt it all up, with the tranny lower they are way easier to get at!

Did it in under 4 hours, in the garage, with the car up 21" at the running boards.

its simple if u can get the top bellhousing bolt with no issues and if ur tranny lines come out fo the tranny with no issues... me have a 13 year old LT1 made it more difficult to get those tranny lines out

Im 20 and do it by myself. I have done it in two and half hours from the time it went up to the time it came back down, without air tools. haha

If you sit under there and keep after it you can do it in 4 hours easily. The part that takes the longest is getting the cooler lines out and the bell housing bolts. The rest is simple.

I use a 13MM swivel socket to get the bolts out. To put them back in I put a dab of silicon in the socket and it usually keeps the bolts from falling on the floor out of the socket.

i also had to buy the 13mm swivel socket.... a 13mm socket and a swivel would not do, the floor pan was in the way. had to get the swivel socket.

OH YEAH AND THE DIPSTICK WAS A BEEATCH TO GET IN AND OUT.
