Default A4 guys take a look at this shifter

Guys I just bought this A4 shifter off another member on this site and this is the way the shifter arrived. Why are these wires cut?? Should they be? Will I be needing them?

If you didnt need the wiring then it is no big deal.Just disconnect them and plug your harness in. Im not sure why the person that sold ya the shifter didnt just do that.

unplug the cut wires from the shifter, and then clip your own harness into it. You have those wires in your car already.

thanks, but why would someone cut these wires and ruin a harness when they could have just unplugged them??

Also, Im doing a M6 to a A4 swap and I do have the A4 wiring harness for the engine. Will I be ok with this?

I don't see what the big deal is. If the guy was parting the car out it's easier to just cut them. If he knew you needed it for a M6 to A4 swap I'd say he was being generous to give you all the plug ends in case you needed them.

Yes I do believe you will be fine with the A4 engine harness. I believe that harness also has the transmission wires in it and all you should have to do is find the connectors on your harness and plug them into the shifter. If I am wrong about this then the seller still did you a favor by giving you the connectors since you will have to still wire all that stuff into the computer.

The engine and trans wiring harness does not have those connections in it. Those are part of the body/interior wiring.

Ok and since my car twas a M6, would the interior/body wiring of my M6 car come with that wiring that will go to this A4 shifter?

I dont believe it will without cutting and soldering wires but it can be done. You will need both wiring schematics to do this though. It would probably be alot easier just to find a wiring harness out of a wrecked a4 and switch them out.

The easiest thing to do would be to bring the reverse light harness from the M6 up to the shifter, and also bring the neutral safety switch wires from the pedal switch to the shifter and splice them into the wiring on that shifter.
Changing the interior wiring is a pain.
If you do the two things above you'll get the basic stuff. You still won't have the rear hatch interlock, and brake pedal lockout.
Did you plan on running the cable from the shifter to the steering column?

I meant to say are you going to make the brake pedal lockout functional?
It's that solenoid that requires you to have your foot on the brake before the shifter will come out of park. That could be a problem finding the wiring for that. Unless you get an A4 interior harness.
