th400 converter install
when the converter is installed it only clicks twice and doesn’t lock. Is this because its a non lockup converter? When I did a 4L60E converter and trans install, the converter clicked 3 times and locked.

According to what Ive been reading...
There will be 3 "clicks" - the first one is going onto the (inner) lock up shaft. The 2nd is the (outer) input shaft. The 3rd is the front pump.
So if there is no lockup how could it click 3 times?

My TH400 had 3 clicks.
I think there is the pilot on the end of the input shaft that seats all the way back on the TC (first click), then there is the outer big splined shaft (second click), then the pump (third click).
Are you having an issue with yours?

The small shaft is the input shaft and it doesn't have a pilot on the end. The big shaft that doesn't move is the stator shaft, and theres the pump drive.
Don't try to count clicks, if two are lined up right it'll go on both and you'll count that as one click and pull it back off thinking it was wrong.
Install the converter, and measure the distance from the bellhousing to the bolt pad with a straight edge accross the bellhousing.
Also it should go in enough to where you cant fit a finger between the trans and converter.
