Default Proper way to check transmission fluid?

I would like to know the correct way to check transmission fluid, i know this probably sounds like a stupid question, but over the years i've overheard and been told different ways, and i just want to know the correct way. thanks

well, i would let the temp reach normal operating temperature. then i shift the shifter all the way down and shift through each gear and let it sit in each gear for 2-3 before shifting up to the next gear. then i check the fluid.

it tells you right on the dipstick, car idling in park on a level surface(if its hot make sure its in the crosshatch area) thats all there is to it.

Yes, you should go through the gears pausing in each, then check in park engine running at idle for 3 minutes more. You can also do a "static" check if it's been sitting for at least 8 hours, but only as a reference. Procedure is in the owners manual and also tells you when not to check it also, like in hot weather right after sustained highway driving, etc.
