Fun to drive?
Are automatic's really fun to drive? I've been searching for a stick for a while and still set on manual. Are automatics really fun to drive? Or are they strictly for drag racers?

Honestly no they arent fun.....its cool that ur consistent and u can nail the gas and not worry about shifting, but i jump at every chance i get to drive a 6spd.....even tho i can shift my car when i feel like its just not the same as a M6.

Mines stock and i say they are fun to drive. Can drop it in gear and get more power and instinct react time. I wouldn't mind owning a 6 but at the time i purchased mine i didn't know how to drive a manual transmission.
Though i say auto is fun if i could do it again i think i would purchase that 6 speed transmission, but i won't trade in my auto anytime soon.
My advice, wait for the right 6 speed transmission.

I had and auto and then swapped for an M6 and the m6 is only about 100 time more fun to drive. plus my car was a turd before unless I was going from a freakin 60-70 mph roll on the highway with the a4 and 2.73's

I am going to jump on the other side of this debate. I have always been a die hard manual fan and always thought manuals were the way to go and more fun than anything. I purchased an A4 car though because I got a killer deal on it and I am loving it. A converter helps a lot with the feel of the car and make them more fun to drive.
One of the biggest things I have noticed is that with a manual during a 1/4 mile pass I was always so focused on my shifting and watching the road and tach that I never got to enjoy going fast because when you are shifting you don't even think about the speed. With the auto I launch the car and hold on and just drive the car and it makes going fast more enjoyable for me. There are things I miss about the manual from time to time but there are niceties to it also. I think before anyone can judge you need to own an auto car because I never thought I would like it but I am loving my A4 right now. Just gotta beef it up a bit to handle some more power.
