Default Do I need a stall?

All of the following is going into a 1991 Camaro Rs Convertible with Iroc suspension and welded SFC's:

2002 LS1 with a tr224/230 112LSA (610 lift)
Stock 243's with patriot dual golds
Ported LS6 oil pump
Long Tubes
4l60e
stock 2002 10 bolt

This might never even see the track, it will be used as a daily driver... not my daily car but i will probably drive it everyday around town.

I have the stock torque converter.

Is a high stall needed for this cam?
Will it drive like crap without one?
I am getting it tuned before it gets driven so can I tune it to perform well with the cam?

I am not opposed to getting a high stall, just don't know if I need one as this is not going to be a race car, just a nice convertible cruiser with a little pep.

Thanks

it will have pep without the stall. it will have more pep with the stall. i love mine....and i wouldn't trade back either. it does cost you a few mpgs around town though.

You don't "need" a high stall converter. The car will definetly be alot more fun and will kick alot more *** with one though!

with that big of cam, you should get a stall.... the stall will keep the rpms high and up in the powerband of your cam

I would suggest a 2500. It will give it a little POP when you get on it. Here is a link of a review.

https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic-transmission/930881-circle-d-review.html

It still uses a full size 12" clutch for lock-up, so the MPG loss is minimal. The perfect "street" converter.

I agree with Circle-D. Even a 3000 stall will still be very tight around town.

That was my review, and having driven a cam similar to what you're looking at with the stock stall all I can say is. Yes you need a stall. You can drive it fine with the stock one, but there is one heck of a bunch of annoyance involved with it. Maybe it wont bother you, but I hated it.

People taking off ultra slow keeps you in a pretty high gear at low rpm trying to accelerate which sucks, bucking and surging no power etc. Sometimes the stock stall will also drag the motor down pretty bad into gear sometimes with a bit of a jerk nearly stalling the motor, embarassing. It will also try to pull you through stoplights; ie it will take some brake pedal effort to stay put.

The only regret I have is that the stall didn't go in with the new engine 8 months/14k ago. After a tank of gas or two you won't notice it anymore.

2500 or even a 2800 stall would be great, with gas prices the way they are though and you saying it probly wont see the track if you get a stall at all id stick to a low stall

from what i've seen the 2800-3200 stalls are the norm when it comes to street converters, some guys go bigger though but there cars see more track time.

Answer this question. . .do you have an auto? Then you have the answer to whether you need a stall or not.

I am going to have a TCI streetfighter 3000 stall for sale next week. I only used it for one season plus a couple off months this year and it works perfect. Circle D is refreshing and restalling another converter that I have this week. The TCI is very tight and streetable. I am going bigger because my car sees the track a couple of times a month. . PM me if you are interested, I will no longer need it.

3000 minimum! It's like having 50 more hp on hand when you need it.

Drummer, eh? Drop top IROC's and drums. A rare breed but we're not extinct! Post pics of the car, sounds like a killer cruiser.

Yeah everyone tells me to go at least a 3200, I was thinking a vig 3200, and if it is too loose then I can just pop it out and have them restall it for free...
Its just that they are 750 bux. just want to be sure...

But yeah I've been playing drums a while, here is my set:

Pearl Session SRX Custom with Zildjain Cymbals, DW 5000 Double Pedal and the cheesy Chad Smith Signature Snare...

Here is a pic of my old 91 that I swapped the 700 for a t-5 and painted it myself and the new vert:

and the new vert:

oh... and the reason I got the new vert:

was in 5th gear on the freeway, it was pouring, I was just cruising talking to my girlfriend and started to hydroplane... did a 540 into a k-grind heh, smashed into the k-rail in the carpool lane facing traffic. I used to work at an auto body shop, and had painted this car before... In my opinion since the whole roof was tweaked and the *** end was tweaked, and needed a new quarter panel, I decided I would let it go and strip it, I didn't want to, it was my baby, but hopefully this vert with an LS1 swap will more than make up for it.
