Will an older 4l80e work with an LS motor
I've found a 4l80e out of a 3/4 ton pickup that had a gen 1 350 in front of it. I am going with an iron 6.0 in my monte carlo and am wondering if the older 4l80e will bolt up and what kind of modifications would be necessary?

Got mine from a 1994 gmc van it was probably easier to fit in then a newer model do to the cooling lines are in a similar location to the stock camaro/firebird ones. Just make sure the shifter linkage is the right one I think some of the pickup trucks got longer shift linkages but the van i got mine outta was fine.

Good link.
So the bellhousing bolt pattern between a 6.0 and gen 1 sbc is the same? I did not realize that.
4 banger mustang - In the writeup you mention that a custom converter is needed. Wouldn't a torque converter from a 6.0 4l80e work?
Also, keep in mind that this will be used in my monte behind a 6.0 that originally had the newer 4l80e, so I assume that there will be no wiring modifications needed.

The bolt pattern is not 100% the same. It is missing three trans bolt, two on the bottom and the top center bolt. Not a big deal imo as it's the same deal when I had the th-400 in my car.
Keep in mind that isn't my write-up, I just added some info about using an older trans as the org poster seemed to be off on a little.
If you are using the wiring harness from where ever the 4l80e came out of, I don't see why you would need any type of modification to the wiring.
