Default New Billet Over-Run Piston - 4L60E - Circle D

I have made a billet over-run piston for the 4L60E/700R4. It will allow you to safely use the forward molded rubber piston with a sleeved input drum. I will be selling these in a kit with a custom sleeve and o-ring. I machine a sleeve that is a little larger than the normal one. It will use the normal outer seal that the OE aluminum version did. They will have a 1/8 check ball installed. No price point has been set, I am gauging interest to see how many to make. Please respond if interested.

Thanks, Chris

Looks good in the pic Chris. How many have you installed yourself? I trust this is being cut in one of your CNC cabinets right?

Send me one or two so I can determine if we are interested in this component.

Call me when you have the time. We have some other projects to discuss anyways!

I'll be at the shop tomorrow. I'll try to remember to post up a sleeved drum and a grenaded drum.

Call me. I do not sell rebuild kits, nor hard parts ordinarliiy... but if I have an extra drum in the build room I'll fix you up.

You might call Chris too, I'm not sure if they sell those.

Yes, made in house. We have tested a few in some "normal" applications so they could get some miles on them. Then in some performance applications to make sure they would hold up.

We designed this piece to make sleeving a drum simple. You don't have to find the old design aluminum pistons, which can crack. Even if you buy the billet forward piston, you still need to use the OE modified over-run. With this solution you will never have to find anything. It uses the molded rubber forward piston that comes in most kits.

I will give you a call next week.

I had a guy tell me he was machining the overrun piston to reduce the location of where the seal would ride with the forward steel piston and claimed to fix this problem. I personally have not tried it. The piston that you have looks nice. Big thumbs up here!!!!!Shoot me a pm for the price on the forward and the over run when you have time. I have been using the aluminum pistons and have had good success with them. I feel the issue that we face as builders is the forward clutch clearance and also line pressure spikes or pressure being to high are the reasons we see failures here. I closely monitor this on every unit we build on the dyno and also reduce the clearance. It seems to be working and have not seen a broken piston in a couple years. Just a thought. Vince

Vince, I machine the steel forward piston legs down to reduce the overrun piston travel. This way the outer seal will not come out of the overrun piston as it would before the machining of this piston legs. By machining the legs I reduce the overrun clutch clearance to .018"-.020", which is plenty. No problems since I started doing this a couple of years ago.

We tried some modifications of the OE components, with some success. But decided to build a simple and durable replacement. This piece is a direct replacement and very easy to install. No machining necessary. I think it is the best looking and strongest solution available.

PM a price, I would be interested in a couple. Is there a reason for making the sleeve bigger then the normal one?

PM Sent -

I made it bigger because I was designing from scratch, no limits except the forward inner seal. The sleeve everybody else uses is limited because it has to use the OE piston and the depth of the o-ring groove. I have not seen any fail, but I figured why not make it better.

Yep, the piston looks sweet. I've got a build in line we are thinking about using it in. I'll let you know what we decide and give you some feedback when we do use it.

Thanks Chris.
