Default firming up 3rd

i have searched but every1 is only recommending servos. i currently have my tranny off already has shift kit, 3200 pi stall and 1-2 shift is nice but i want 3rd alittle firmer is there any spring or pistons you can buy that will firm up 3rd i have the vet servo and will be getting a 1-2 actuator piston. any tips are appriciated. if i was to get a sonax 2nd gear servo would that firm up 3rd?

Which shift kit was installed? Who did the install?

Many times the reason 3rd gear does not "hit" is because the clutch pack has excessive clearance. There are actually a few things that need to be done to the hydraulic circuit to firm up this shift. Most of them are proprietary.

The servos only job is to control the band application and to provide accumulation for 3rd gear. Modifying the servo will not make a noticeable difference in 3rd gear application.

Sonnax claims that servo will firm up the 2-3 shift. I personally have never took a vehicle and made the comparison test. However guys with trucks go to the vet servo from the 553 servo to clean up the 2nd gear shift. The only thing that could be different with the sonnax piece is that the accumulator part of the servo could reduce the accumulation and firm up the shift. I do know when I have installed the internal parts into the servo the cover seems to be tighter than the vet servo when installing the snap ring. Also the sonnax piece uses d ring type seals instead of Teflon seals. This does provide for a better seal and reduces the reaction time of the circuit! Maybe there is something there to consider.

I have used both the sonnax and the fairbanks servo both will firm up the 2-3 shift to some what. The fairbanks more so from my experience due to great reduction of the 3-4 clutch accumulation, However since since they will both also firm up the 1-2 shift due to increased area it may be desirable to increase 1-2 accumulation at the same time particularly with the fairbanks. In either servos case I would only use if the band was and after market performance piece with reinforced band lug area as with the stock band tear through here is a real possible risk due to the increased clamping force of each.

Then based on that info I would have to say that the unit has excessively worn 3/4 clutches.

Yes making this clear the 3rd clutch is indeed accumulated in the back side of the 2nd servo and used to release it and the 3rd direct clutch is called the 3-4 clutch, I am very aware that the 3 to 4th or fourth accumulator is in the case but that is the 4th accum not the direct clutch (3-4 clutch) accumulator. I guess my wording was not clear on the matter (MY BAd) as they say.
