Default Should I upgrade to a Yank ss4000?

I'm currently saving for a new transmission just in case my tranny goes boom after the H/C install. I'll probably be sending the coverter back to Yank just to make sure it looks good before I put it back into a new transmission.

I've been thinking of getting it restalled to a ss4000 from a ss3600.

My car is not a daily driver and is only driven on nice weekends. I've never been to the track but I may go once or twice to see what times I may run. I will have a much bigger cam after the swap, ~230/238 ish, so I've been thinking of getting a bigger stall to match the setup.

I was looking for anyone else that made the swap between these two converter and their experiences with them. Should I stick with what I have to go one step up to the ss4000?

Copied from my thread about 1 year ago

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I Have been using YANK's SS3600 for 2 years and I absoulutly loved it but started to feel I needed a little more to get the truck out of the hole. I ordered a SS4000 with intentions of back to back comparisons and here are the results.

Naturally Aspirated

Best From SS3600 Aug 24, 2007 -- 3675DA
RT ... .244
60' ... 1.698 (My Best ever w/3600)
330 ... 4.872
1/8 ... 7.551
mph ... 91.27
1000 ... 9.903
1/4 ... 11.877
MPH ... 116.59

Best From SS4000 Aug 31,2007 -- 3525 DA
RT ... .190
60' ... 1.558
330 ... N/A
1/8 ... 7.366
MPH ... 93.68
1000 ... 9.713
1/4 ... 11.685
MPH ... 116.53

WOW what a difference in how the truck 60 foots... Its actually stalling to about 4400. The Shift extension N/A is 1000RPM, I did make one shakedown nitrous pass. A 10.86@124MPH through the mufflers. (mufflers were off on passes above) The Shift extension on the Nitrous passes was about 700 rpm.

I made 7 passes On the SS4000 Every single one had a 1.55x sixty foot. Slowest pass was 11.70@116.1 Fastest is shown above So the converter is very consistant.

I am very happy with the converter. I will have to do a little more nitrous testing to see what it does.

Thanks to Dave at YANK for taking care of me. This was my 5th converter purchace from YANK.

Can the ss3600 be restalled to a ss4000 or do I need to buy the new converter and sell the old one?

Dave could re-stall for you. You should call him to discuss it, you might be better off to sell the one you have and purchace a new one. Just thinking cost wise.

Why not pt4000? To me ss4000 is pretty tight, I DD my car and I think I can tolerate more. Just curious as to how much it is worth at the track.

My car is more of a street car than a track car. For this reason, I planned on sticking with the SS series.

I'll be calling Dave with Yank tmr to discuss it with him. Thanks for the replies.

i am not sure what you want out of the car. if it is only a street car and you don't go to the track really, i honestly don't know if i would upgrade. i recently purchased a PT3800. i dont' think it is listed on their site but that may be an option for you too. its not in my car yet so i can't tell how it runs. i don't think it will be a 60-ft monster because the str is only 2.0. i don't need a hard launch though because i only run nittos and i wanted the efficiency once i got moving. so, i went with this stall. yank told me they don't really recommend shifting the PT 4000 much below 6700 rpms. i will probably set mine to 6400 or 6500 with this 3800.

because the ss4000 is just as good if not better....

i mean do you think i would have better 60fts if i had the PT4000...

i pulled 1.42s and a best 1.4000 cam only...

Looks like it will only cost me a little over $200 to get it restalled. As soon as my transmission takes a dump, a Yank ss4000 will be going in.
