Default 4L60E woes

Ok, need some help figuring this thing out. It's a 96 S-10 Blazer 4.3 w/4L60E trans. Starts driving fine somewhere after about 35 mph the rpms shoot way up, like 6K. Have let off the gas, tried downshifting to no avail. Shoved the pedal to the floor and it grabbed and took off. Thought either low fluid or clogged filter so I changed the filter and topped it off...no good. still doing the same thing.
Maybe something electronic???

Looking for ideas before I burn it to the ground

Have you had it scanned for DTC's and for proper operation? If not, do that and get back to us.

Being as it's a '96 and it apparently neutralizes at 35 MPH I would suggest that this unit has lost the 3/4 clutches.

Does it make a shift at all or just stay in first gear?

It will shift out of first into second but about the time it gets ready to shift into 3rd the rpms go up like it went into neutral. I can downshift to second and it is in gear. I can drive in in 2 and can get up to 50-60 or whatever without slipping but I guess the 3-4 is gone like Ratchthed says :-(
What's a rebuild on a 4L60e 4x4 trans cost? I think I'm gonna part it out...or burn it down

I am afraid that will not help the fact that it is neutraling where the 2-3 shift should be is telling you the solenoid is working

those motors tend to blow the oil lines out anyway, not worth fixing. Before you get rid of it, at least do a couple 6k neutral drops! It will take a few of them. Make sure its in 4x2 though b4 u do it.

I'm going to bet that your VSS is not reading your reluctor properly. I have a 4L65e that is behaving identically. (Same deal, no codes) I have a new reluctor ring coming. Will know by week's end.

Good luck.
