The aftermarket converter pilots are different. As far as bolting it up I do not think there is an issue. The spacing is the same you will just need the correct converter and you will not be using the 12 o'clock bolt hole. Do not cut this off the case because you will need it when you go to the LS1. Also that is a huge mistake with a very expensive case IMO. If you don't think that you will being doing this any time soon I would use the correct case for the engine in the car. Vince

alright so if i use a trans from an LS style engine will a torque converter for a gen 1 work in the later model trans??
well i am ahving to put a transmission in my nova. i want an overdrive trans, but i do have some plans for some more power in the futer. right now all the engine consist of is a stock TPI engine nothing special. i would like to have some sort of force induction regardless of what engine i use, seriously considering a LSX engine. I have looked at 700's and 4l60's but not sure if i want to take the risk of it breaking on me, and i dont have the funds to purchase an already built trans.
basicly want something that will hold power and be reliable, and thought i would look into a 4l80
