Question TH400 stall "cam only+N2O"

I'm looking to buy a stall for my TH400 that i built this month.

Can you help me deciding on the right stall for my moods?
It is a street car but not my daily drive "cam only, full bolt-ones + 100 wet shot"
currently it got 3.73 gear in stock 10 bolt and i'm thinking to change it to 3.42or 3.23

I'm looking for the best stall speed for the streets from YANK or Vigilante

Thanks in advance

Default Torque Converter for your Turbo 400

I know that you listed in your thread for stall speeds from only 2 manufacturers. Thought we might give you a third option.

We are a new sponsor on LS1 Tech , but not new to the industry.
FTI Competition Converters has been Wnning Races all over the U.S. and Canada. Fron NHRA U.S. Nationals in Indy , Top Dragster & Top Sportsman events as well as the last LSX Shootout in Atco N.J. FTI builds Superior Quality Torque Converters for Racing , Street & Strip , Diesel and Lockups.

What we recommend for a 99 Z/28 Camaro with your Horsepower figure
would be an SR Series Converter.Which is good for up to 600 Horsepower.
It has a Billett Front Cover , Hardened Pump Hub , Triple Torrington Bearings,
Furnace Brazed & Tig Welded , Chromemoly Pump Hub , Computer Balanced , it's an Extra Heavy Duty Converter with Dual Bolt Patterns. Stall should be in the 4,000 to 4,200 range.

An SR Seriers Converter for your application comes with a Money Back Satisfaction Guarantee it has a 1 Year Warranty, and 3 Free Stall Changes to the Original Owner . As you change your setup we can change the stall for you to ensure you have that perfect combination. Thats a Free Service with FTI to the original purchaser , you only buy One Torque Converter that lasts
forever. The price is only $435.00 .

Let me know when FTI can help you.

Thanks
Bud @ FTI

check with JL that stall is great I would have bought his if I hadnt allready bought one plus hes a stand up guy. Your looking at spending at least $850 to $1200 for a stall min. Whatever you do. Dont buy a off the shelf one that is not going to support your H.P then you risk blowing your tranny when the stall goes. Just depends on your budget.

Try calling Neal Chance. I'm doing a TH400 swap into my GTO and his converters are bada$$, but they cost $1200. Yank, Vig, Circle D are very good and they are not cheap. If you run a cheap converter you are going to leave a bit on the table IMHO. I was going to cheap out and get my car running asap since I blew up the six speed, but I'm now going to do it right the first time and buy top quality stuff and it may take me a little longer until my car is driveable again. But I won't have any issues with it when I'm done or wish I had done it differently in the back of my mind.

Converter is one place that saving $ is probably not a good idea. IF you are buying a converter that's less then 1000 bucks, it had better be used because any good one is gonna be over a grand new.

Last LSX shootout winner runs a RevXtreme/FTI:

And Marc Fishers Vette cover bracket car:

The expolded view display...so there is no doubt as to the quality that goes into these converters:

We are running a sale right now to kick-off FTI becomming a LS1Tech sponsor. Each converter is built specifically for your combo, no "off the shelf".

excellent price for so much tc!
do yall offer a sfi ls1 flexplate to work with your tc?
i currently am running with a 6.0 flexplate and spacer along with sbc 10" dual pattern th350/400 tc rated at 3800, works very well but im weary of a mishap at hi rpm with a oem flexplate, 400rwhp and 7k rpm

just some thoughts here, everybody wants a good stall off the line, but a tighter converter while cruising-converter tech. has come a long way, but still w/o a lockup converter, you give away something on one end or the other
i run an old school switch/pitch turbo 400, and have a converter rated at 1300/3000, and have switched cams, rearends using the same converter
i started out with 3.31's, good driving on the highway in the tight mode, would stall higher taking off, but not as fast-switched to 3.55's, would stall not quite as high on the takeoff, but quicker, higher rpms cruising, bscause of the gears-switched to a bigger cam, hurt the stall and of course power on the take off
switched to 3.73's, less stall on the take off, but quicker, as the gearing is better, the stall was reduced because the car was easier to move, but of course on the highway more rpms, even switching to the tight mode, not a lot of diff.
the point of all this bs is you need your final setup, gears, cam, etc to get a converter matched-anything you change will affect the cars performance
for me, im going to build a 4l80e, match up a converter for my setup, and
have the o/d and lockup for highway driving
why in hell GM never made a big brother trans to the 700r that was computer free, lower first gear than 2.48, is beyond me-they could have been selling the heck out of them for years

The 4L80E is just a TH400 with an overdrive. Put in the manual valve body kit and vacuum modulation and presto, no computer crap to deal with.
