Default How does a stall work?

When the trans is in drive it wont engage till the RPM of the stall or you keep your foot on the brake and it goes to the RPM? any help would be great understanding this


EDIT: also whats the stock stalls RPM?

It's always engaged.The more the resistance(what the output section of the convertor sees),the higher the 'slippage' of the convertor.

The convertor input(engine output) is always 'connected' hydraulically to the convertor output(transmission).Your 'engagement' is probably what you're referring to when you feel the car move/start to move.The hydraulic connection is always there.

do a 'search' in this forum for 'stall'
