So i have a technical question about this engine and its fuel system and computer. How much above the factory tuning do the injectors flow? Have any of the DI BMW's, Mazda's etc. had to upgrade injectors to keep up with increased power.
I see that tuners are having issues tuning some of the current DI motors, is there a similar GM DI computer that has been hacked for better tunability?

I don't see why GM wouldn't utilize a system that would be more than adequate.
Anyone who doesn't like the displacement can always stroke the motor, if need be. Regardless, what's wrong with a 5.5L with a serious bore to take advantage of an amazing cylinder head?

From everything I've heard, the 5.5L is a racing-only engine for the GT-class Corvettes. It is not a production engine. The first Gen V engines will be 5.3L and 6.2L, and will have direct injection. IIRC, GM had a Cadillac Escalade protoype with a DI L92. It made 450+ HP with nothing more than the addition of direct injection and relevant tuning.

Why is a Chevrolet 5.5 liter small, but a Ford 5.0 big?
Because we are used to LS7's with 7 liters and Ford guys are used to 4.6 liter engines.
It's all perception.
Done correctly, this will crush the V8 competition from Ford, BMW or whomever.

Just Noticed this.
Here you go.

The second link has build pics as well, and autoweek did an interview where Bob Lutz talked about how he used that as his daily for a while.

We shall see... the Ford 5.0/6.2 is getting DI pretty soon as well; the heads are already built for it.

I don't know about that, remember it took them 12 years to match the power of a 98 fbody. Given their track record it could take an eternity for the mustang to see DI. In fact considering the current head castings are set for DI I wouldn't be surprised if the aftermarket stepped in to provide DI conversions for the coyote motor before it becomes standard equipment from the factory.

Also, how the **** does a V16 fit into anything? That thing is HUGE. I can see a W16, but that V is a very long block.

Ah ha, now we're thinking!
I guess so. I'm kinda thinking that DI will come out (in the trucks) when the new Silverado comes out, around 2012-2013.
If you look at this picture, and have any idea what the front fenders on a full size truck/SUV look like, you can tell that the firewall forward was stretched to fit the V16 in there.

Agreed. If anything, Ford seems poised to front-run for a bit. The warrantied blower upgrade for the 5.0 should show their dedication to performance at this point.

There's more to be gained from the new engine than that though, the block and heads have been redesigned.
No one on said otherwise, however the question begs to be asked: "What took so long!?"
What makes you say that?
As a former Cobra owner I will tell you I didn't. I can see where you drew that conclusion though, it was my fault for being too general in my earlier post. I was talking specifically about the base model v8 cars, Mustang GT vs. z28 and Formula. The cars you mentioned are exceptional cases, those were expensive factory options and the GT500 and Cobra R are ultra cars.
