They are probably doing this only to get their money back on the motor.
In fact thats exactly why the Ram SRT-10 exists, badass non the less and for what it offers this is a great deal, just like fords cobra jet.

Pretty badass looking.
I'd rather have a 2011 Cobra jet though.
I don't really like the V10 sound.
The cammed Mod motor sounds sexy as hell IMO.
And it's already gone mid 8's.

I dig the factory built race cars, like the old super stock Darts and COPOs as well as these. What I would like to see come of this is the availability of parts for us guys looking to set up street cars. Manual steering, live-axle swaps, lightweight components, ect are all simply pieces any guy on the street would kill for.
I wish the OEs would offer some sort of "LX" package for the street legal R/T, SRT-8, SS and GT. Give us the optional ammenities, live axles, gutted sound deadener/heat shields, manual steering, ect. Not everyone can or wants to spend $85k on a race-only vehicle, but would more than love to have it available for street use.
For what it's worth, the V10 sounds pretty dope. No V8 rumble, but nothing to complain about!

What's most amazing to me is that the drag pack weighs about as much as a Corvette or Fox body. I know a lot of stuff is missing, but even the interior is basically complete. 1,000lbs is not a joke!!!

I like the car but its a waste. With such limited production they are going to pull extra $$$ over sticker. So the average Joe won't have one strickly bc of the price and availability, even if the average Joe had the 85Gs laying around. So why would this car interest me or anyone I know? Its a shame even a doctor can't understand that. I mean you don't honestly think we all make Dr.'s salaries do you.

can you even DD a car with a 2 speed transmission? does it even have reverse? still it'd be pretty sweet to cruise around in that thing.
i wonder what the MPG would be like, i know it isn't relevant but i'd be curious to find out.

These cars will sell. Ford just released their new 2011 drag pack cobra jet mustangs sometime before the US Nationals and there was 10+ of them there racing. Only serious racers will buy these. Ill bet Big Daddy will be running one next year.

id hope so with no ac back seats polycarboante windows etc.
The Drag Pak is intended for supervised off-road competitive events only and is not legal for street use.
straight off the spec sheet.
im not disagreeing its not a fast car, just wow 85 grand for a non street legal car =/

love everything about the car but the paint job, looks like a challanger driven by ken block paint guy, like you need to where baseball cap slightly turned to the right like a douche hipster to drive it, change the paint and its pure sex

Looking at the spec sheet:
3250 lbs. Not bad considering what they started.
Its a bit ridiculous though. $8000 for a roll cage. Must be gold plated.
Should be good for mid 10s, maybe even low 10s.
Looks like strange 9" rear (Ford 9") and 2 speed trans (powerglide?)
I'm not sure where that power to weight would put the car in stock or super stock but I think its too light for stock eliminator and well, super stock will require more power. The super stock Mopar A bodies (Hemi Darts and Hemi Barracudas) are running 8s now. 3000lbs with a 500hp (index rating, not actual engine power) Hemi. What the NHRA does is give the car a weight and the engine a horsepower rating, and you get handicapped by other cars with the same power to weight ratio. Gotta check the record books again but at one time S/AA (Stock eliminator, A-the fastests A- automatic) where old school hemi challangers with 3800lbs and I think 490hp rating (street hemi). In super stock SS/AA is ruled by Hemi Darts and Hemi Baracudas (early style) running 8s. 3000lbs and a .060 over 426hemi.
So you dropped $80,000 into a car and then need to pull the motor for a complete 'tweak' to make it competitive. Last I heard, a competitive small block chevy stock eliminator motor would run about $20K. Wonder what a V10.
A racecar with no race.
I suspect the car will go to some collector and occasionally see some bracket racing. It would not be competitive in any heads up class.
Real race cars are built, not bought.
