because it doesn't hold water. or we could say that the shelby would beat the premier chevy if it were lighter....but that won't work for you guys, would it?

By "premier Chevy" I'm assuming the ZR1? Which if it was in that weight class it would? Why... Wouldn't it work for us guys? Less weight more hp = faster...
Then it could lift the front tires like this guy which later ran a 10.2 @ 135
Autoblog got this from GM for further confirmation on the times.
*UPDATE TWO: The times quoted in the press release – 11.93 for the auto and 11.96 for the manual – were recorded on the stock Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar G:2 tires. According to Chevrolet, the team knocked about a tenth of a second off those numbers with the Mickey Thompson drag tires.
Oh ok, that's what I'd thought all along but the way it was written made it somewhat confusing.

Yes, we could.
I have almost no doubts that the 2013 GT500 would beat the C6 Z06 and possibly even the C6 ZR1 in a straight line if it weighed under 3500 pounds ....it might even run right with the quickest bone stock C6 Z06's best pass (10.9@128+mph) as it is (at 3850 pounds).

I'm thinking 11.9 is respectable... stock. However, it made me wonder what they were thinking when I saw that it knocked off an additional 1/10th of a second with MT's attached. That's not respectable... NANNIES!!!

I like all RWD V8 cars with at least 300 lb ft of torque.

I think a lot of people (not you) are overlooking the fact that this GT500 has a little more than 1/2 a pound per horsepower advantage on a C6Z06, so it shouldn't have a problem beating one. It's actually a little closer to the ZR1 in terms of power to weight than it is the Z06; but it's pretty much dead in the middle of the two. With drag radials I see the 2013 GT500 running 10s without having absolutely perfect conditions(meaning, not the negative DA a lot of times are being set at now).

That's Bruce (aka: 'Fartpipe' or 'Zturd' on the boards) gettin' it done.
Bone stock (other than the drag radials of course) C6 ZR1.
to be honest, i don't know if it would or not.....it's just tiresome hearing the same "if ours was lighter" argument all the time. the same people that use that argument, would jump on a ford guy using that same type of argument......

Agreed.
I'm really looking forward to seeing the actual track tests of the 2013 GT500, both in magazines and in private hands at the drag strip.

I hear ya, some people (both GM and Ford guys) probably need to play a little more 'fair' when it comes to that stuff.

yea, they do. on both sides.

Sorta sounds like the your lt/ls1's are only faster because you have more cubes arguement that we have heard for years yet that was ok right? So I guess when the GT500 is faster in the quarter mile that the only reason it's faster is because of power and it doesn't have anything to do with weight right? Oh let's not forget this car is in DIRECT COMPETTION with the GT500 so everything should be compared and let the best man win and this time around its going to be the mustang well atleast for the first 1320 the rest we will have to wait and find out. Lets just hope that Chevy fires back since ford stepped up to the zl1/ls mustang hell I think if we just bumped up to the same size blower and boost levels we would be neck and neck but that cast bottom scares me WTF CHEVY!!!!

This is where the GT500 really wins. IDK why Chevy makes the ZL1 or the CTS-V without forged internals, but when it comes to adding horsepower to the GT500 and the ZL1 it isn't even going to be debatable that the GT500 wins.
The Shelby GT500 with a twin turbo setup was doing high 8's no problem on big tall drag radials. Had complete traction issues but would come out soft and then get into it.
A good strong block and strong internals gives Ford the edge I agree. However don't expect GM to stand and watch. Something already in the works. Honestly if they duplicate the LQ4 motor with more bolts per cylinder and forged internals they can boost the motor to high heaven. But you still have to make it handle the high revs up and down of road racing so it doesn't shake itself apart.
Love the Ford/GM wars. Always makes for some faster cars. From a looks standpoint I could never buy the Mustang. Just too damned ugly looking. Wheel sizing also make it look goofy.

the difference is that i never complained about the cubic inch thing. i simply noted that those were the camaros that beat their respective mustangs, while the more common lower displacement camaros couldn't.
the guys with the "if the camaro weighed less" argument are constantly whining about it. constantly.....worse than a gaggle of middle aged women going through pms.
chevy will fire back. hopefully they do it quick, 'cause this is more than likely all come to an end fairly soon, thanks to the govt, and their regulations.

That is a big difference, indeed. At this time, the Camaro simply seems 100% over-classed. Due to it's gargantuan size, it simply can't compete as well as we'd like to see.
Another note worth consideration... It simply doesn't look like the performance gained with the Lingenfelter hands is worth the hefty price... 9 grand plus (after taxes) for 516rwhp / 460rwtq on a 5th gen LS3... Not impressing me even a little bit, considering where the thing started.

that seems kinda steep for that power gain.........
