Default 2014 Cadillac ELR priced from $75,000*

This is taken directly from autoblog: http://green.autoblog.com/2013/10/11...d-from-75-000/

Anyone who thinks the Chevy Volt is expensive is not going to like this news. In fact, anyone who wants plug-in vehicles to succeed is probably not going to like how the just-announced base price for the 2014 Cadillac ELR electric luxury coupe will give ammunition to anyone who says these kinds of cars are too expensive. We'll cut to the chase: the ELR starts at $75,000, way more than previously predicted.

Sure, that's before any possible government incentives (from the feds, that can be up to $7,500) but it's also *before the $995 destination charge and other fees. GM highlights the fact that, when you add everything up, you could get an ELR for "as low as $68,495," but that's also roughly where a Tesla Model S starts. Given that Tesla has sold a lot of those EVs, maybe the ELR price point is what GM CEO Dan Akerson meant when he recently said, "If you want to compete head-to-head with Tesla, and we ultimately will, you want to do it with a Cadillac." We know GM has been watching the California start-up closely. Even if GM has Tesla in its sights, the powertrain in the ELR is basically the same as what's in the $34,995 Volt, a 16.5-kWh lithium-ion battery that offers up to 35 all-electric highway miles and 82 MPGe.

The ELR certainly looks very different – and premium – and we're expecting a drop-dead gorgeous interior, but that's still a boatload of cash, especially considering how well the Volt has(n't) sold. We shall see how the buying public responds when the Cadillac ELR goes on sale in January "in all major US metropolitan areas." One special feature? ELR buyers can call a special phone number – 855 4 CAD ELR - for "white-glove customer care."

There are 470+ comments in that article, as of this post. The pricing is contentious.

At least it looks good. I'd take the Tesla every time over that(or the upcoming AUDI diesel), considering the price. I saw it yesterday and thought, "Really?" That's about 40 grand too much. Surely GM will wake up and put this in a decent pricing range. After all, the brand new 2015 Escalade starts under 64k, or over $10 thousand less paying full sticker price and anyone who thinks this thing will amount to Escalade value is on ludes.

Does look good, but dang... way, way, way overpriced. I can't see why GM would want to limit their buyers market like this, but they've been superb at making bad decisions for over 40yrs now, so I can't say I'm shocked.

I would love to have a garage with this car and the BMW i8 but the price..here is the i8 for visual comparisons sake:

The article and comments are saying the interior is yet to be released for the ELR but the images attached to the article have interior photo's, so I'm not sure if those are accurate or place holder for the concept or idk?

Fixed. Thank the EPA for that. An article I read in 2009 stated the average car price will be $6600 more by 2016 due to the additional investment needed for manufactures to meet the 35mpg requirement.

The gov is always looking out for our best interest.

The bmw is just **** but its performance is nowhere near worth its price.

The erl looks great but GM are you ******* JOKING?
Id take a tesla all day everyday over this thing. I just feel like tesla overall has proved out of everyone in the electric world, they are the best and build one solid *** car.

Way to Kill vehicle sales before it even goes on sale. What a ridiculous price. I'd buy a Tesla instead as well.

If the Cadillac has the volt engine without performance enhancements or better range, it is probably more comparable to the i3 than the i8.

http://www.engadget.com/2013/10/10/e...3-cost-45-300/

For an additional $3,950 on top of the BMW i3's $41,350 base price, buyers can augment the vehicle with a two-cylinder engine, roughly doubling the car's usable range.

http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-review/...t-drive-review

... is claimed to provide a range of between 80 and 100 miles on a high-voltage three-hour charge.

Edit: Sorry I don't know how to resize this thing while keeping the aspect ratio.

That i3 or whatever the "cube" in the picture above is, just happens to look hideous in my opinion. That said, we're all looking at price and performance or overall capabilities here and without a shred of doubt, GM is on the far side of its competition and because of it, their price point seems utterly STUPID, not just ridiculous, but outright stupid. Whatever moron came up with that pricing idea should be looking for a new job, bagging groceries or something, by now... right along with the idiots who approved it! Alone, that pricing makes GM look bad and its leadership look uneducated about the automotive market. Sad.

Do they live in a box? How do they not know what the interior looks like. Leno was driving it three months ago.
