Default 2.7L F150 tested

This was done by MotorTrend, so take it with a grain of salt. Even so, there's some impressive results here, like 0-60 in 6.5 seconds... this, from a 2.7L TT V6 in a 4,935 lb 4X4 Supercab Lariat pickup. This won't be the lightest version, but it makes me wonder if the 3.5L TT won't manage high 13's or low 14's in STD cab 2wd configuration.

Still nothing on economy, which is BS by now, probably done solely because they want to sell off the 14's. The model tested here is the very one, Lariat SC 4X4 that I would buy, were I getting a new 1/2 ton new pickup. I looked at a Tremor yesterday, but nah... I like that it was an FX4, but I can't get past the 43k price tag. Plus, I really don't care for the center console shifter. Incidentally, I do think the new XLT and above with have the same space wasting feature.

With ALL the weight loss, the new F150 now weighs in ... about 200-300 under the current GM 1/2 tons... I have no idea where the GM weighed less before and I didn't remember it being THAT much lighter.

I looked and noted: 4,935 for the new Supercab 4X4 2.7L in this test and 5,216 for a double cab 4.3L Chevy 4X4. The 5.3L brings the weight up to 5,324 so either way, it's NOT terribly heavier. That's a ROUGH guess based on limited information, but if GM really goes aluminum in 2017, they will have a really lightweight pickup and fuel economy will surely go UP!

I hope gm looks past aluminum and feeds off their experience with composites. They have made composite beds before and of course the vette which has had carbon used in it. Composites are the future. Aluminum is a band aid to get to the future.
