That's right folks. It's been known for a few years now that a 6.3L naturally aspirated mill would supplant todays blown 5.4L V8 under the hoods of many AMG products and we now know which Merc will get the honor to tout it first. Merc's flagship W221 also has the honor of launching the marques new mainstream 32 valve 5.5L V8 in the S500 that will soon completely replace the long standing SOHC 24 valve 5.0L V8. The W221 S-Class. In terms of technology, Mercedes seems to be following Audi whom in turn has been targeting BMW. As we all know, the Ingolstadt execs and the boys over at Quattro GmbH have ditched their bi-turbo setups in favor of a bit more displacement and revs as that's what the M Division over in Munich has favored for a while. Well it seems that the fellas over in Stuttgart will follow suit with a higher revving V8 of their own. The only difference is that this sucker displaces a whopping 6.3L. w00t.

As for the car itself, seems like a bad *** machine. Mercedes 7G-Tronic is supposedly one of the best self shifters in the industry and the only 7 speed torque converter automatic used by any big name automaker IIRC. Seems like a promising executive sedan. Should be a baller *** ride no doubt.

I'm wondering what they'll badge this sucker. S63? The last S63 AMG was actually a V12 car that used a naturally aspirated 6.3L V12 that made 444hp (this was back when the S55 AMG didn't have a blower and made "only" 349hp). My the folks who bought these cars before their blown and bi-turbo bretheren were born must have been pissed. In any case, since the current 6.0L bi-turbo V12 is supposedly slated to be around for a few more years, it would make sense to keep the AMG V12 S-Class the S65 and resurrect and old nameplate with a new formula by calling this sucker the new S63. My how times have changed... and in this case they've changed for the better.
