Anyone in the automotive media here?
Hey all,
I'm finishing up my journalism degree with a concentration in PR and I'm really interested in getting involved with the automotive media. I've been interning at the top PR firm in Denver, team lead for two campaigns on campus and have been really active in any media opportunities I can find. I would like to apply that experience in the automotive field.
I would like to make some contacts in the field and see what I can do to break in to the field. I thought this would be a great place to look and do some networking!
Thanks,
Evan

send a nice letter and resume to Rick Jensen at GM High Tech. Doesn't hurt to try.

If you really want to get into automotive journalism, you probably should start getting heavily into photography. Many people can write a feature, not so many know how to take nice photographs or have the equipment to do so.

I work for a place that handles media fleet vehicles. I talk to the big journalists around midwest all the time. I don't know what to tell you though. Might want to try a place like Consumer Guide or Cars.com. Those guys are pretty cool and they have a big staff. The problem is starting out. These guys do this till they die or get fired. Good case is Sun Times and Tribune. These guys are ancient. Forget the big papers, they have one guy who's been there since WWI and has no clue about new tech. Get into an online review place or something like I mentioned with a bigger staff. Maybe a small local paper. Believe it or not they get free cars to review also. You definitely have to start small even freelance. We also deal with them, which means you'll get work. Start a review website. You just have to get a reader base or work for a magazine or newpaper with a decent distribution. Maybe even work for a place like mine. You'll get to know the journalists on personal basis. Good luck.
