Anyone ever tried a 285/40/18 on the rear??
I was trying to decide between a 275/40, 245/45 combo or a 275/35, 245/40 combo but ended up deciding i'd prob just stay with the stock height and run the 275/40's in the rear. Well... I've been lookin for awhile and have yet to find a pair for a good price.
I did however find a good deal on a pair of 285/40/18 nitto 555's that are pretty much brand new for $150 for the pair. I know nittos run more narrow so width wise it shouldn't be an issue. I just don't want them to look too tall...
What do you guys think? Will the 285/40's fit ok?

I ran Toyo T1-R (285/35/19) and they rubbed once in awhile on a lowered V, so I'm not sure how that would translate to the 18's, but I have a feeling that the sidewall height would really get you. The tire size calculator comes back with a 26.97" overall diameter for the 285/40/18 and a 26.85" overall diameter for the 285/35/19, so I think you will have to drop down a series to make that width of tire fit if you are lowered, if not, it might work.
Oh, and they are going to look pretty dang tall. A 40 series on a 245 mm wide tire is kinda tall, but on a 285 mm wide tire the sidewall height will be ridiculous.

Just got a pair of rear Hankook Evo 12 275/40/18's installed last week. Love them. Found a great price at onlinetires.com. Took a printout (before shipping, of course) up to Discount Tire in Friendswood. They price matched, had the tires in a day, and also saved me a few bucks since they charge less for installation if you buy the tires from them. This worked for me because I really wanted to get the replacement warranty since I drive a lot as well as I'm now running different sizes in the front and back and replacing these things can obviously get pricey.

Yeah, saw that when I was buying. Pretty good deal. My fronts are in great shape, though, so I didn't get a whole set. I had a big old chunk taken out of one of my rears when I curbed it, thus the need to replace the two rears. Figured I'd replace both so the tread life matched. Went with some more beef while I was at it.

Hmm... maybe i should just order some new hankooks in the size i want then.
I was just trying to save some cash by buying used but i think the 275/40/18's would fit better than the 285/40's i found. I would go 275/35 and 245/40 but i was thinking it would give me back some of the fender gap that i got rid of when i dropped my car and would give it a slightly rougher ride...

Didn't realize you said "$150 for the pair". Yeah, that's hard to beat. Tires sure can get expensive for these cars. My wife used to hate it when I had to get tires for the vette. The kids ride in the V far more often than they did the vette, so it's a little eaisier sell with her now.

I know the 275/40/18 will work perfect... especially a nitto. Im just not sure if the 285/40's would work. I think width wise, they would clear but going to a taller tire might not look as good and might actually take away from the low end power the car has...

Hmm... wondering what widening them would cost and if there would be any clearance issues or if they could give them the perfect offset?
I saw a set of black powdercoated stock wheels with tires awhile back ready to bolt up and they had been widened in the rear to 10" for $800. At the time i didnt have a V or i would have jumped on them!
