What causes the whine? Warped case?

Axle/diff whine is generally caused by excessive backlash between the ring and pinion. Mine has whined for two years. If you have the newest gen diff I don't think you have anything to worry about.

I think the whine thing on V's is blown out of proportion. Most who buy these cars have never had another performance car, this is their first. My 03 Cobra had 19K on it when I bought and 26K when I sold it. The rear on that whined. My SS had 54K on it when I sold it and whined as well. Neither gave me any problems. Drive it until it blows and then worry about it

The V isn't my first performance car nor the first performance car I had driven. The whine can get real annoying at times.

i have driven (but never owned) some other performance cars in my day. they all had a whine, with one exception (that being a 67 Camaro with a built 427 and a 9" rear in it).

the whine in the V is def a bit worse, but i am not to worried about it. when mines starts up, it stops a soon as i shift.

I've def had performance cars in the past, i guess this is my first american performance car, maybe its a local thing??? I guess this is the first RWD performance car, cause my last was AWD. Either way, hopefully it'll still last quite a bit of time....

Mine has been whining for the last 20k miles that I have owned it, who knows how long it whined before I bought it. I bought the car with a maggie and making ~430 to the wheels, about 5k miles ago I did a head cam package and it's been making ~510hp since. The car is my daily driver and I regularly take it on 8 hour road trips cruising at 75-80mph every other weekend. The noise is really annoying, but don't worry about a catastrophic failure.
