Default Help me - E55 or CTSV

My little girl was born 4 months ago and I sold the 08 LS3 C6 for my wife to grab a new Equinox. We still have the 300C SRT8 (CAI, tune, UD, Catback) and it's a strong car but I test drove an 04 E55 and holy ****, that thing would **** all over my SRT8. Not to mention it was amazing inside and felt amazing to drive ie- trans, size and weight.

SO I am trading in the SRT8 for.

2005-2006 E55

0r

2006-2007 CTS-V

My main concern- I have never seen a vid of a CTSV beating an E55. When you look on Dragtimes.com.... the CTSV times are pretty lame. Not one car traps 125-135 if I remember correctly.

You guys really worry about "launching" an 06? If so, I can't do that at all.

I know you guys know your shet so help lend some advice.

There is an 05 E55 (60K) here locally for $24K and an 06 CTSV (48K miles) for 23K. Damn good buys.

I know an E55 is exspensive to mod but looking at the stock traps/times they are low 12's at 116-119. The CTSV's are much slower at mid/low 13's at 105-110. Guys, that's a HUGE difference. I would need a good blower cam and a supercharger (E55 has it already) to match, not surpass the E55...

Please help me decide. Is there anything I'm missing?

What are your mods for those of you trapping 120-125?

I have a good idea. Buy that E55, & trade it to me for my V.
The V looks much better IMO, but I'd rather have the E55.

If you're willing to drop 60K on an '05 E55, why not consider an '09/'10 CTS-V?

I'm sure you can find a used one for less than 60K and the performance is much, much closer to that of the E55.

Well there is your answer

Also thats quite a deal on an 05 E55. Personally out of those two cars i would get the E55.

Also the interiors are light years better with the mercedes.

Thanks guy's

My wife hates the CTSV but she does like the E55. I can rip apart the entire CTSV and repair anything, no worries. The E55 on the other hand.... BUT, it is just a car, and with Ebay parts these days, it's do-able if and when I have a problem.

Basically I see it like this.

A stock E55 is as fast or faster (?? depending on mods but you can't launch a V) so it is actually chaeper and drop dead sexier.

Anyone in here trapping 120? What mods?

Do we have a V fast list? I can't find it for some reason-

CONGRATS dude! Little girls rock! I was really wanting a boy since the car hobby is usually centered around boys BUT she will be right there ripping into the E55 or the V!

My little one just turned 4 months and she is sleeping from 10pm to 7am straight through. How are you sleeping, lol..?

You can't fix the problems yourself? Is it the diagnosis or the actual repair or the parts $$$? Just need al the info I can get.

Tough choice, my boss has an 06 E350 and I park my V next to him all the time. My car looks sooo much better. Our sharp curves look better than the round E.
I love our interior too.

I killed an e55 60-135 by 6-8 car lengths. I love MBs but I love the never ending mod options with the LS2. I used to have an e46 M3 which I loved but just an intake was like $800. This is a cheap car to make fast IMO.

I think you'll be happy either way.

You put 6-8 lengths on an 03-06 E55? What mods on your V?

See, I personally think the E55 is one of the most beautiful cars and I'm not crazy about the CTSV's sharp lines and the interior is a bit less desirable than even my SRT8 BUT the modability is cheap for the V.

What are your V mods to put that kind of distance on a car that traps 115-119?

Lingenfelter CIA, Kooks LT, Kooks high flow cats, Corsa catback, Fidanza Twin disk. It was actually me, a charger srt8 and a slammed e55 and we all got about even and hit it. I was just driving my car home from OR (just bought it 9 hours before) The charger pulled for a sec and then the E and I walked away and then I eventually I pulled on the E. Who knows he might have started backing off the faster we got but it seemed like he couldn't hang.

its a pretty easy decision for you though. If you aren't fond of the looks of the V how could you buy one. Go for the E. Don't get me wrong I think its a gorgeous car! Congrats on the little one. I've a 18month old little girl. Kids are awesome

The V1 is without a doubt a roll-racer. Do you do more freeway runs or dig races?

Your wife likes the MB, you're more sold on curves than lines, interior in the MB is nicer than the V1's (fact), the MB is a better drag racing performer.
The V is an awesome car, you're familiar with LSx cars and they're easy to work on, you can turn into a learning experience for your daughter, there is a great aftermarket out there for the LS2, the rear issue has been pretty much resolved (between the 06-07 rear + Hendrix Axles), V's handling and overall driving experience is very fun.

Hope that helps some.

Given your concerns, I'd also say E55

Trade in the SRT-8 with some cash and buy a V2. Problem solved.

It's more of preference than anything else whatever you think is better buy that. Have you test driven a V also?

E55- Much more common, everyone knows what it is and it looks so average to me, don't get me wrong I think some MB's are gorgeous, black series FTW! but I mean the guy next to my work has one and side by side the V stands out more!

CTS-V- It's not as common it confuses the **** out of people when you walk all over them in a Cadillac! Granted trap speeds and launches and blah blah are not as great but I mean it's such a great platform to mod off of and maintenance will be so much easier and even a bigger plus you know how to work on this car.

That's my take on it, either way good luck with your choice I'm sure you'll love whichever you choose!

I have seen tons of E55 AMGs rolling around here.

I've only seen one V1 CTS-V.

Beyond that, the MB is a nice car. That much has already been said. I love being able to surprise the **** out of someone with the V. I love how nobody believes me when I tell them its a 6 speed and that they never came with an automatic. I love how I can spend $1000 on engine internals and make this car bullet proof for boost. I love how I can buy parts for it all over the place.

I HATE the 6 lug wheels and I HATE the nav system. Everything else is just fantastic.

I don't think the CTS-V was ever intended to be considered a stoplight to stoplight monster. The 14" 4-piston brakes front and rear are an indication.

This car shines, though, out on the road. It simply amazes me how stable it is at high speeds, twisting and turning through winding roads.
