Default Oil on the exhaust tips help!

Was cleaning the car today and I noticed there was oil on my exhaust tips n the check oil level went up on my screen I'm a little worried because I am sure there should not be oil reaching all the way down there is it a broken seal or what how bad of a problem is this?? Advice?

Thanks for the help in advance!

its kinda hard...since they are both oil. the difference between the gear oil in the diff and stadard motor oil is weight. but you can compare teh color of the oil on the dip stick to what you see on the tips.

unless you havent change the oil in serval thousand miles, then motor oil shouldnt be black.

Gear oil smells a little funky too. A good synthetic smells like grapes or something.

Climb under the car and see if the rear shows any signs of leaks. Of course, if that were the case, I would think it'd be all over the back end of your car, not just the exhaust tips.

And if it is engine oil and it's traveling all the way through your exhaust system, your car should be making quite a bit of smoke while driving/startup.

Hopefully it's just carbon/exhaust soot. I have to clean the polished Corsa tips on my Viper every time I drive it.

I highly doubt the low oil level message would come on for gear oil. You have big problems that are about to rear their ugly heads.

It is possible that the two are completely unrelated. Its hard to say without seeing the car. Diagnosis over a keyboard is a tough one.

Thanks for the info guys and 154 is right they were unrelated it's almost time for another oil change and I usually lose about a quart before any change and the black oily stuff was just the water mixed with carbon and what not it all evaporated away so I doubt it's oil crossing my fingers the V is fine!

So your low oil comes on when you're one quart low? Mine comes on when I'm two quarts low.

I guess sometimes it is hard to tell the difference between oil and water. LOL. Glad your V is fine.
