Default Anyone tried a 295/35/18 rear tire on stock V wheels?

My buddy and I are thinking it should fit. My 275/40 rear fits nice with no strain and pretty close to straight up and down. I would think a 295/35/18 would fit just a tad wider considering it has the same overall height of the 275/40 but would look much more aggressive.

I know most people are going to say 275/40 is the max but has anyone actually seen or tried a 295/35 setup?

In the past I've run 315/35 on a 9" wide wheels and 275/40 on an 8" wide wheel so I would think the 295/35 would fit on the 8.5" wheel...

I think it depends on the tire. I had some Dunlop Direzzas that 275/35 18 fit perfect without any strain, so a 295 may fit. On the other hand the Nitto Invos that I have on now in 275/35 18 bulge pretty good. A 295 in the Invo would not fit at all.

Yeah, that's true. I thought nittos usually ran narrow compared to the rest. My Goodyear GSD3's fit pretty wide but look nice.

So in that case... Anyone know what 295/35 would fit best considering the differences between brands?

I have the GSD3's (275's on the rear) and I couldn't imagine going wider on the stock 8.5" rim. These are more like 285's...It really comes down to the tire for sure.

Yeah, the GSD3's fit nice and wide. I love mine. They didn't last me but 9-10k miles though and I'm at the wear bars. I'd run them again but I need something that will last me a little longer than that...

Ive easily gotten a year and about 10k miles plus out of my stock sized gsd3s, you must abuse the **** out of them lol. I can see mine lasting another 10k easy.

I hope i can find some new gsd3s(since they are discontinued) after these go cause they are the best tire ive ever had, if they hook hook up a 500rwhp car and stick even better in the rain they get my vote all day long.

i am running 285/35/18s in a michelin pilot sport and truthfuly they fit just fine i wish i would have gone with a 295. i thought the tire guys would have trouble putting them on the 8.5inch wheel but they popped on just like any other tire. only downside is less traction due to tire not matching rim properly so for looks awesome but traction no... i would say go for it there is room for the 295 and it will look better.

Lol! Honestly man... I really don't. I just baby it around town and to school and back. These 275's hook better than drag radials so it's pointless to try to spin them. Lol

Maybe it has something to do with being lowered??? I don't know. I expected them to last longer than this but I got the pair new for $150 so I can't complain... Lol just need replacements now...

Thanks for the info Joe! I'm going strictly for looks and tire life. I don't beat on the car so soft tires that hook up off the line aren't really a necessity for me. I just cruise it to and from school and around town.

I've been running 295/35/19 KDW2's for awhile now without any issues. They are mounted on 10" wide wheels though.

Dude, they have them on eBay every once in awhile. I got lucky and bought mine off a guy on the svt forum. They are bad *** tires! Just pissed they are already so low on tread cause even the tread pattern looks sick! Lol

295/35's will fit on the V clearance wise but my issue is fitting them on an 8.5" rim. I'm jealous you have 19x10's! Lol I want some but for now I'm on stockers... Lol

Thanks for the help man! I'll check out Dallas craigslist. I haven't found anything I want here on the Houston craigslist for tires.

Do goodyears run the biggest compared to other brands in the same size? I know nittos tend to be slightly smaller/narrow compared to most other brands.

I picked up a set of GSD3's (rear tires) from this guy on E-bay. He runs different prices every so often but I paid around $160. Get them while you can.

JD, Thanks for the link man. Ebay seems to be the only place you can find those tires now.

Snowman, is there any way you could post some pics of that??? Id really like to see how it looks on the car if possible!

SSCamaro, I've heard of those tires and i've seen pics on ebay but i have no experience with running them. Please PM me a price for them when you get a chance as i may be interested in picking at least 1 of the 2 pairs up for the rear of my car.

FYI, any tire maker will provide an approved rim width range for their tire.

An F1 Supercar in 295/35-18 is approved for a rim from 10-11.5" wide. The stock V wheel at 8.5" wide is well outside that. I think you will find most 295/35-18's have a similar approved range.

That said, most 275/40-18's have an approved width range of 9-11", and you aren't sweating that.

I know tire manufacturers have rim width suggestions which is obviously the reason why our cars come stock with 245/45's on all 4 corners but... the 275/40/18's on the rear are not stretching the limits on the rim at all. They fit nice without any strain. I've run 315/35's on a 9" rim before without any issues but that was on an old mustang i had. I'm sure running a wide tire like that on the track would be a bad idea but on the street, the car is simply cruising from a to b. Im not pulling any serious g's in corners or anything.
