Default need help with gear situation... getting desperate

I know its lame to link to another thread but I'm on my phone and I'm getting extremely desperate, so please accept my apologies for this, but I'm thinking it may be better suited for the CTS-V crowd rather than the other sections

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1350541

And please let me reiterate how desperate I am. Thanks.

Your clutch cylinder is going out, or either the hydraulic fluid is shot or there's air in the system. Try pushing the clutch pedal a few times before putting it into gear. If it slips into gear after that, then either your fluid or clutch cylinder needs attention.

It won't go after a few pumps. 4th or 2nd - 1 DOES go in, however.

Is that with the car sitting still or driving?

Im certainly no tranny expert, but when I read your symptoms, the first thing that came to my mind is a syncro problem.

I was thinking that as well, but it'd be better to check the hydraulics first. If the clutch hasn't been bled in a while, I strongly recommend it. I had to flush my clutch fluid when the car saw 31k, and I don't drive aggressively.

It'd be nice to find out if the gears that you are having an issue with are running off the same synchros.

another person for syncro issue.

the slave and master could be going bad too, but i am really leaning with deedubb and lubelizard that is a syncro starting to fail.

I agree. Like I posted on the other forum, my buddies GTO does the same thing. It grinds going into first gear every time unless at nearly a dead stop and shifting into second gear prior to first gear. We've flushed the fluid several times using a motive bleeder and manually using the pedal.

strong chance it is a bad synchro. Mine has started doing that recently and when in stop and go traffic the grinding increases. I just usually give the gears an extra second or so to spin down after pushing in the clutch until I find time to fix it.

I've had syncros go out on several of my fbodys over the years and they all start with the symptoms you stated.

Lubelizard: moving.

Weird update. I put a bunch of lucas trans fluid additive in it today, and for some reason I can hit 1st at low speeds again. The weird thing is it feels like all the gears are starting to do what 1st did, which is feel like the lane is )( shaped, and it slides on through and stays in gear.

Screw the additive. Dump all the trans fluid and put the Amsoil or equilvalent in the trans.
Then, take a good look at the old fluid. Like, hold it up and let the Sun shine through it and check for metallic. Also, recheck the clutch fluid.
If it still fails to go in gear after the complete fluid change, then start thinking about one of the best mods.
(Flywheel, clutch, pressure plate, slave, trans rebuild) Don't forget the extension on the slave for clutch bleeding.
But, hopefully you will not have to do any of this, but it may be a blessing in disguise.
good luck.

How old is the fluid in the trans? If it's over 30k, and you're not sure when it was changed last, then you should flush it as well as the clutch fluid, and see how it goes from there. If it still gives you problems, consider it an opportunity to have an LS7 clutch installed.

a little update here... me an 07CTS-V did a complete ls7 clutch swap in the car, but it still has the same symptoms, but now it has even more...

it now grinds when downshifting into 2nd, although very intermittently, and I'm now able to occasionally (and accidentally), put it into R while I'm driving down the highway. I found this out when I went to hit 5th in the morning.

Does this confirm a synchro issue?

Yes that is most likely the problem. It will only get worse the more you drive on it...i hope you didnt put the new clutch in becuse of this issue because nothing about this situation points to the clutch..lol.

You think the synchro is going out?

Are the synchros for 1 2 and R on the same shaft? I thought it was 1 and 4.
