Default XLR vs CTS-V

I was just browsing the Cadillac site, up late an unable to sleep, and I was checkin out the CTS-V and the XLR...

XLR - 4.6L 320-hp DOHC Northstar... 1/4 in 14.3
CTS - 5.7L 400-hp OHV Corvette LS6... 1/4 in 13.1

CTS-V is priced at a cool 50 grand... and the XLR is 76k- WTF!?

Who in their right mind would pay nearly 30,000 dollars more for an XLR when they can have a CTS-V? I found it pretty amazing, I had no idea the XLR was going to be priced that high. It is a nice car, though...

CTS-V: http://www.cadillac.com/cadillacjsp/...jsp?model=ctsv
XLR: http://www.cadillac.com/cadillacjsp/....jsp?model=xlr

I think 50 grand doesn't sound too damn bad for an LS6-powered Caddy... that'd be one hell of a sleeper with aftermarket heads and cam.

V-series for sure.........

I've driven both, the XLR rides nice and would be good to have in the garage if you have the extra 80G's lying around, but the CTS takes the cake, I personally think it drives better, handles better, a lot faster and the LS6 idles very smooth for what it is, they did a nice job putting it into the caddy.......from what I've seen too so far is that the black one we got in has much better paint than any XLR I've seen so far........

You think headers and loud exhaust would be too redneck for a Caddy??? I think that would be a great car for a lawyer, LOL.

You defiently don't want the exhaust to be loud on the caddy, that is truely redneck, but a nice set of ported heads and a mild cam will give it some nice HP gains, I was looking at the CAI setup too, they got the nice standard pinched off design, there is HP to be picked up with an aftermarket piece for sure.......

It sure would be redneck, but to sound like death and destruction from on high in a Caddy would be wicked...

I don't think anyone is cross shopping the XLR and the CTS-V.

If you want a sport sedan, the CTS-V. If you want a high end grand touring convertible, the XLR.

You don't usually buy a completely different kind of car than what you are looking for just because it happens to be faster for cheaper. So if I'm shopping SL500s, Jag XK8s, and XLRs, I am not going to consider the CTS-V. Yes, it's faster for cheaper. But it's not a 2 seat convertible for styling and profiling.
Taken to the logical extreme, why would anyone buy a CTS-V instead of a Mustang Cobra since it's faster for cheaper? See my point?

You've made that pretty obvious already, it's like asking why anyone in their right mind would buy a CTS-V when for the same price they can have a faster and more nimble C6 Corvette or BMW M3.

They're all different types of cars for different niches.

The XLR is a very plush, open air cruiser, where it competes prestige, quality, luxury and handling matter the most, and compared to the competition, it does quite wll.

And Cadillac is planning a XLR-V, it'll have it's hands full with the Mercedes SL AMG.

i am a tech at a chevy/cadillac dealer and we just got in a XLR last month. i though it looked pretty cool, but i was very disapointed when i open up the hood and saw that same POS northstar in there most caddys have. and yes i did say POS northstar. within a 6 month period, we have replaced 10 northstars and 3 GEN3 small blocks. now consider how many more GEN3's there is out there compaired to northstars and you can say they are a POS. took it fo a drive and it is pretty slow for the looks. altough all the gadgets are pretty cool and the idea of no keys sounds good but i seriously think they should of put a LS6 in there instead. so because of this, i would say get the LS6 powered CTS

I would of liked to see the XLR with the LS6.......

Most of the northstar "quiet idling" motors that they are supposed ot be that I see are pretty loud knockers at start up, and as they get older they get worse, my dads 97 seville is still running strong at almost 70K, but it hasn't seem much abuse at all....

Our silver V has some issued with misfiring and our service manager thinks its normal that the motor has misfire....I know the LS1 motor and it doesn't idle normal, you can feel when it drops a cylinder in the car........the first one we got in idled nice and smooth......

POS, i hear that, whenever a dealer has to have drip pans in the showroom because thier new cars leak oil, they suck.
as for the cts and xlr, the interiors are cheesy as hell. the foglights on both cars look like $hit. it looks like they assembled these cars with a hot-glue gun.

xlr is NOWHERE NEAR as refined as the sl55.
but, NOWHERE NEAR as costly.
$130,000 is alot for a 4600 lb roadster that runs 12's, maybe.
