Default Quick question about jack stands

I'm looking to pick some up so I can do maintenance on the V myself, but I've never had a set before. I have a set of ramps that I have used since my first car, but all I've been doing was oil changes and fluid changes on my wife's Jeep.

I plan on eventually getting headers, doing brakes, painting wheels, etc that would cause me to need to get a set of stands to lift the whole car up.

How much clearance is needed under the car to be able to get in and out? I'm considering a set of stands with a floor jack that have a max lift height of 15" on the jack. Is that going to be enough to crawl around under there and work relatively comfortably?

get 2 1/2 ton or better...make sure you put them at the jack points on the FRAME..not the pinch welds.. get it up as high as u can but be careful when jacking up on the other side thats still on the ground.

Try Torin 3 or 6 ton jack stands--I just picked up four 6 ton jacks. They were $40 per set + shipping from Amazon (so about $100 for everything). The reason why I went with the big ones is because they can go up to 24"--if you're planning on removing your transmission, that extra height is key.

Of course, you'll need a hydraulic jack that can get you up that high in the first place.

I think anything on sale would be the best bet. They are all pretty up there in quality; just because they arent really difficult to make
