Please keep my dad in your thoughts....
I went to parents house Thursday at about 2:45 PM, I walked in to the house, to hear this strange noise coming from upstairs, at first I thought it was my dad calling from the attic, but when I went up there, I saw him laying on the floor next to the bed calling, his voice just wasn't very loud. Called ambulance and told them to send a vehicle out for him. It looks like at 8:00 AM on Thur. he got out of bed, and when he stood up, he passed out, and hit something when he fell. He landed on his front but when I found him he was on his back, with his arms in front of him like he was as low as possible bench pressing something. He couldn't move his arms or legs and barely had feeling in his arms, and none from mid chest all the way down. Got him to the ER, the doctor did a cat scan, he broke his c3 and c4 in his neck, the bones haven't been moved out of place, but they are broke. They ran an MRI to see if his spine is broken, but when they did the test, his spine was so swolen they couldn't see if it was damaged or not.
I was just there again last night, and they he passed out due to his low blood pressure, he is usually around 100/70 or so, but when he got up he says he remembers getting dizzy, and that's the last thing he remembers before he woke up, on the floor unable to more. Its also possible that he had a minor stroke, as his speech is still slurred. He must have hit a lot of things when he fell, his nose is broken, lips bruised, knot of the side/front of head, and another knot on the back, and skin cracked open pretty badly.
last night they incubated him, because he was having trouble breathing and they were afraid his lungs would collapse. They haven't been able to do a lot with the pain because his blood pressure has been sooo low, like 80/50 - 60/40 kinda low, but when they incubated him it went up to around 115/85 or so, so they have been able to up his pain meds, so he is in a lot less pain.
They say there is blood and spinal flood leaking all around his spine but the swelling is starting to go down. the doctors say with this kind of injury he will be bad, and start to get good, (which happened yesterday afternoon, before they incubated him) than he will get worse again which happened last night, and the reason they incubated them. Now he should slowly get better, and once he does, and plateaus at that they will do the neck surgery. The only problem there is, is it will take 3-6 weeks until he gets to that point. Once they are confident that he is fully stabilized, he will be moved out of ICU, and over to a rehabilitation facility until he hits that plateau so they can do the neck surgery. Than he will get a little better after that, and we'll just have to see what kind of mobility he will have.
Right now, he can only bend his left arm, and rotate his wrist, he cant squeeze his hand. His right arm feels nothing, and cant move it. His right leg can feel a little, just setting your hand on it and squeezing lightly, his left leg can if you squeeze harder, but he cant move either. The position he is in, is just strange, his back is bowed backwards, so it looks like he is trying to stretch real big, the doctors say, as time goes on, his back should straiten back out, and allow him to lay more normal.
Thanks Chase
