Hey guys, this is my first post. A good friend of mine wants me to buy his blue/black cts-v, I can have it for his loan payoff of $10000. The bad, 154,000 miles, loose shifter, and I believe he said it may need a drive shaft bushing. The good, 07 rear, 180+ compression, small cam, full exhaust, well tuned, body and interior are excellent, new wheel bearings, new motor mounts, newer monster clutch. The modding was done in the last 16,000 miles. I drove the car, everything works and it runs great. It burns a quart of oil about every 3000+ miles. For an extra $300 he will give me a back up LS1 he was keeping that has 50k on it.
I checked kbb and it was only around 11,000 and KBB always seems high with other cars. Let me know what you think, thanks in advance.

Miles are high of course but for the mods & the fact that everything is in great shape, I would say thats not a bad deal. $300 for an ls1 isn't too bad, either!

here's the deal. Cadillac made a decent car, the cts. GM makes great ls motors, and they use really good t56 transmissions. However, cadillac did a garbage job putting the great engine/trans into a decent car. The dual mass flywheel is junk, the motor/trans mounts are junk. The rear ends are junk, and the driveshaft is shitty. So, it sounds like all of the issues have been addressed and fixed. The shifter linkage bushings are also junk, but really cheap and relatively easy to replace.
So, $10k for an ls car? that typically means either a gto, or an fbody. I would say to go for it, because if $10k is your budget, it's a much more live-able car than either a gto or an fbody.

I left out it has a new LS2 timing chain but needs rear tires. Hatched you make a solid point about other LS cars in that price range. I sold my 03 Cobra a few months ago and this V would cost me half of what I ended up with from that. Aside from the cheap modding the cobra offered a CTS-V is more of a car for me. I'm really leaning towards a buy.

It is a solid deal if you want the car and plan on keeping it. Selling anything with 150k+ is not easy. My main worry would be, Why does he have a backup ls1? Is he a real friend or does he know it's about to let go and wants to dump the work on you? Why do you call it "blue/black"?

Oh no, he's a real friend, no bs. He does tuning and engine work for a living and has a spare everything at this point. The extra engine was from a customer he built and installed a stroker motor for and the guy didn't want the original.
Blue/black was blue exterior black interior.
I agree it would be a hard sell if I only wanted to keep it for a couple years.

Sounds like a good price, even given the miles. I'd think if he were to sell it privately, something like $12-13k would be in the ballpark.
Is the car Stealth Grey? There is no blue on the first gen CTS-V, nor the 2nd gen until 2012 (though I've never seen a picture of one in Opulent Blue Metallic).
