Default Getting rid of the stupid dual mass flywheel

Can I use the LS7 flywheel and slave cylinder with the stock clutch and pressure plate? I'd like to get rid of this vibration piece of crap and replace my leaking slave cylinder but my clutch and pressure plate are in good shape.

No, you have to use everything (LS7 Flywheel, slave, clutch, pressure plate) for it to work. You can reuse the LS6 slave and get a spacer, but its better IMO to go with the LS7 slave.

Cautionary tale: clutch engagement will be very low to the floor (same problem exists with LS2 slave + Katech spacer). I've been limping along this entire winter with this situation, and will be having a custom 1/4" shim made to space the LS7 slave cylinder out a little more.

Btw, you can pick up a brand-new OEM LS7 clutch for $300 on eBay. O'Reilly sells a solid LS7 slave cylinder, and it's only $94.

Well my slave is leaking so I'm going to replace it anyways. SO you're saying I will need a small spacer even with the LS7 slave?

The Stock Slave is $100 more then what I can get the LS7 slave for. That one at O'Reillys is about $50 cheaper, though I don't know if I would go after market with it.

What about a Corvette LS6 setup? anyone ever install one of those? I don't plan on running any more power then stock, so I don't need the holding power of the LS7 stuff if its not required.

No. You ABSOLUTELY do not need a spacer. My clutch engagement is around the middle of the pedal. You need the LS7 flywheel, clutch disc, pressure plate, and slave cylinder.

This is one of the best mods you can do to a V1... it makes the car feel like it's 800 pounds lighter.

That's good to know. It sucks that I have to spend on this money on my daily driver when I'd rather be sinking it into my Corvette.

The pressure plate for the LS7 and the dual mass in the caddy is recessed. The offset is the same but the stock disk is unsprung. The guys with the old UUC single mass flywheel don't seem to mind it though. So...... It should bolt up and work just fine using only the LS7 flywheel and LS7 slave.

I'll vouch for the LS7 setup working well without a spacer. The engagement may be closer to the floor while breaking it in, but after about 1000k miles it should be right in the middle.

I wouldn't put the c5 LS6 clutch setup in a heavier car with the same engine. You need to remember there's a significant weight difference in the mix. The extra holding power of the LS7 clutch may compensate for the added weight of the caddy.

Well its only $220 for the flywheel, $220 for the clutch/plate and $150 for the slave my cost at work. SO for around $650 after tax, its not too big of a deal anyway. If I can save $220 on the clutch and plate then good, but wither way, I have to do it, the vibration is driving me nuts. the car feels like such a piece of crap right now.

All of the GM Slaves I've ever installed cam prefilled and never needed bleeding. can I get away without buying the remote bleeder?

Jamie did my LS7 clutch kit and could not be any happier... Its a good analogy saying it feels 800lbs lighter, lol.

According to GM, the Dual mass flywheel weighs 50.1 pounds, and the LS7 flywheel is 26.6 pounds. Almost half the weight.

trust me man, quit posting on this board for a minute and go order the ****. while you're at it, PM PISNUOFF / 07CTS-V and get one of his shifters. You get rid of that shitty dual mass turd, and the 3 mile throw shifter, you're gonna fall in love with that car all over again.

I'll be doing a short shifter eventually. I'm actually replacing my knock sensors in between post. and that turned into a valve cover reseal, which led to an engine detailing. all this while working on customer cars too. LOL

Great info!

Don't forget sdparts.com is selling a whole kit(GM LS7 Pressure Plate, Disc & Flywheel. Also includes GM flywheel and flexplate bolts.) for $459.

For another $100 you can get the lightweight Aluminum flywheel, which I think is a bad idea for our cars, but I have HEARD of one person using it and not having any issues.

And yes someone is selling a GM LS7 clutch kit for 299.98 shipped and then you have to get the flywheel which I have found for about $250, so the SD kit is stil cheaper as this does not include ANY hardware.

So you could get the LS7 slave at O'Reilety for $100

AND, the remote bleeder is another $80 at LAPD, $50 at Tick, Speedway motors offers one with your choice of length from 6"-48" for $29.99......

So depending on the parts you choose: $559 - $1000 if you are not careful.

I am going with the SD kit as I cannot find anything less expensive and I have done a little homework.

If you are yanking it apart, a remote bleeder is the only way to go IMO.

I have one question as I just noticed the applications for the speedway motors:

Fits T-56 throwout bearings off the following applications:

98-02 LS1 F-Body
97-04 C5 Corvette
04-06 Pontiac GTO.

Will this kit still work?

Also it is not assembled, which is perfect for me as I like to build not buy everything!

No worries guys! I know I am new to THIS board, but I have been around forever just hanging out.

If you guys ever need anything just let Daddy know! lol

FYI, for the speedway motors, one of their customer reviews says that the 36" long bleeder will reach all the way up to the middle of the intake. DAMN!

I still think I am going to order a 48" so I can bleed it while I am driving down the road!

Any word on this:

Yeah i asked about the bleeder earlier, I was asking if its necessary because the slaves come pre-bled and I've honestly never has to bleed a slave for any reason in 12 years at the dealer.

Also, I just looked up the LS7 clutch kit from GM over at gmpartsdirect and it is $200 for the clutch.......

GM PART # 24255748
CATEGORY: Engine Clutch
PACK QTY: 1
CORE CHARGE: $0.00

List Price: $348.17
Price: $204.41
You Save: $143.76 (41%)

.....so the $300 on ebay is not worth it at all!
