Got my hurst shifter installed on saturday, from brian. Quality of the unit seemed very nice as well as the quality of the changes to it. Fit in the car perfectly. The hardest part was getting that rubber boot holder into the boot, sheesh!!!...

I like the shifter, my nova had a hurst stalk similar to this one, it feels cool and more racey.

I came from a katech shifter which was tight(meaning not loose and worn out), with stock ****, but the katech is stock height with minimal shortend throw.

The hurst unit shortens the throw quite a bit, and requires a bit more pressure to engage gears than a more stock style shifter. The katech was also weighted so that helped. I've still retained the slight movement in my shifter due to movement in the linkage at the tranny end. But that was expected.

Bottom line is I really like this shifter, its nice in fit and finish and I love the shortened throw along with the feeling it gives you seeing that old school hurst shifter and ball.

Give it a few hundred shifts (a fews weeks) and it loosens up.

not sure what you mean, because its loose enough to move around by hand before installing it. its not "tight"... to move. Im just saying that due to it being a shorter throw shifter, it naturally requires more leverage to shift gears. Not a bad thing, just an observation.

What option did you pick for the Shift boot size on that site?

I installed my shifter a week ago. Was initially stiff at first, but after using it for a while, it broke in nicely.

Really shortened throws. I had to relearn the shifter cause I was used to banging through the gears on the stock one. Took it to the runs and I banged through gears a lot quicker as I noticed from videos people took of me and comparing to my older runs with just the stock shifter.

There is more certainty going into gears, you know where they are unlike with the stock shifter.

I have always had trouble finding 5th, but this shifter made it a bit easier. My friend used to miss 3rd gear while driving my car, but not anymore.

No noticeable extra cabin noise or anything. The chrome stalk does get warm though from the exhaust. That's about what I have noticed.

One thing that happened to me is the **** slipped off to me while I was banging through the gears and I managed to slap my passenger accidentally. I would recommend some teflon tape or threadlock on the ****.

Overall great product and well worth the $285 I paid. Black **** looks better than the white **** IMO.

I ordered through Brian's group buy. It's a real alcantara boot with white stitching and shortened 1.5"

Not to knock this shifter *at all* (I have even considered buying one to replace the B&M short throw i have in the weekend car because I love how this one looks)

But am I the only one who likes stock shifters more than short throws? Ive come from VWs and hondas and ALWAYS ran stock shifters. The long throws dont bother me one bit. Short throws always seem to require more effort than they feel like they should. Ive always been able to shift my stockers better. Is it just me?

You may be alone amongst the owners of the V's....after feeling how garbage the stock shifter is in these cars I cant believe anyone would WANT it...lol.. Now I will say this hurst requires more pressure to shift than my katech did... it had a longer stalk and some heft to it. But this hurst looks badass and is functional.

Has anyone made a shifter for these cars that removes all the slop, without reducing the throw?

I sell the bushings that I use in my modified stock shifters. They fit tight and eliminate all the side to side play associated with the shifter itself. They are $75 for a set.

I am sure I will have them when you order. I generally keep 3-5 kits of each color **** in stock at all times and it only takes three days to receive more if I do happen to run out.

It depends on the car for me, but in the V, the stock throw distance slammed my knuckles into the ashtray and nearly bottomed out on the rear of the trim bezel when in 2nd and 3rd. It was a simple matter of ergonomics for me. Well that, and Brian's bushings that were sorely needed to cure the slop.

I liked adding an extension to the top of short shifters in my suby. It would put the **** a little higher than stock but the amount of travel was the same or less. I just don't like the super low ****.
