Default 2004 CTS-V: Track results inside.

Yesterday was the day. The first time I have had this car out on the strip. First time I have ever drag raced a RWD car for that matter.

The day started off early, drove out to the MIR track rental we had set up and unloaded the car. The car is currently running the same tune I run on the street all the time and is tuned for 93 octane pump gas. Aired the radials down to 18psi and pulled in to the staging lanes.

Set up is a Built LS7, 2.9L Whipple on 10psi, Comp Cam, "level 2" T-56 trans, LS9 clutch, CS 8.8" rear end w/ 3.73s, DSS axles and DSS 1 piece carbon fiber driveshaft. Suspension is K-sport Coilovers and tires are Mickey Thompson 265/40/18 ET Street Radial II's at 18psi cold.

First run of the day I launched from 3,800rpm or so and completely blew the tires. Wheel hop was pretty bad. I lifted and waited till it stopped hopping. Once it did, I got back on the throttle. ran a 13.x @ 12x mph or something…….great…

Second pass I decided to launch much lower, 2500 this time, and still wheel hopped pretty bad but stayed in it. On the 1-2 shift I lost a TON of power… something was wrong but I left my foot in it a little longer. Sure enough something was broken. When I got to the end of the track to turn around I realized the serpentine belt snapped on me again. Upon closer inspection, the tensioner broke itself when the tension released as well…14.something at 60mph...even better.

I figured my day was over, but my girlfriend insisted on trying to see if the local parts store would have something. I was pretty bummed but she headed over there anyhow. As luck would have it they had the tensioner and an extra couple belts on the shelf! 30 minutes later I was back in business.

Pulled in to the staging lanes for my 3rd pass. My Boss' 650whp ZL1 in the other lane, I have been waiting for this for quite a while.

Proud owner of this little piece of paper here:

Hold tight, still working on uploading a couple other videos, also hit 136.Xmph later on as well as a 10.9 pass to "back up" my 10.7. There is also an in-car video of the 10.9 but I am having a hell of a time uploading it anywhere

10.9 pass. I believe 1.8 60'
In car footage of the same 10.9 pass. I apologize for the length, I've been trying to edit and upload the shortened version for 3 hours now, and I'm just over it. Don't mind the faces I'm making at my boss in the right lane, the mess in my car, the weird stickers on my borrow helmet, or my boredom kicking in and putting music on while it takes him 3 minutes to do a damn burnout.

Burnout at .30sec
Run starts around 1:45

136.Xmph solo pass

He really needs to put all this **** in his sig. It's not a mere mortal car.

Built LS7 converted to dry sump
Whipple blower
CS 8.8 kit

Plenty of other mods, but those are the parts that make the car go fast. That's a V2 killer right there.

427 with a whipple.

What boost are you running? In the for sale thread running 6.5 the old owner put down almost 800whp, that that what it was at in this run? 6.5 lbs boost about approx 800 rwhp?

Built LS7 *wet sump*, 2.9L Whipple on 10psi, Comp Cam, CS 8.8" rear, LS9 clutch, Mickey Thompson 265/40/18 Drag Radials. 4080 lbs w/ driver.

Car made 760whp on 6.5 psi. Later made 800whp on 10psi. The tune was made a bit more conservative before I brought the car home and now makes an estimated 750-760 or so.

.
Dammit, I knew it was wet sump, but wires got crossed in my brain and I thought "Yeah, dry sump is what normal cars have." That's why I said converted since it's normally dry sump, haha.

SPEECHLESS

"Amazing" is all I'm able to say. Pretty hard to talk when your mouth just hangs open. I've known the 8.8's are strong, but... Day-Um.
Kind of a "Proud Papa" moment, built that diff with my own two hands.

DRIVE SHAFT SHOP, GOTTA GIVE THEM PROPS. GREAT STUFF !!!

Thanks RJ, You and that car had me a bit nervous, I admit it. Gulp.
Well done ROCK STAR, You just got yourself an instore credit, don't hesitate to call

It's quitting time

Thanks guys! Everyone always has to follow up and say "there's a lot more in it"…of course…

But really though, I think there is a 10.5X or better at this power level and on these same tires (which are relatively small at 265/40)

Max, I very much appreciate your offer! I need to get under the rear of this thing and see what's left that isn't poly. Subframe bushings are stockers i believe, so that should help with some of it. The good passes look decent, but others the wheel hop was HORRIBLE, to the point that I just abandoned the run completely "uh oh" bad. Proof here that the 8.8" and the DSS stuff is tough as nails. I made a lap around the complex and got right back in the water box after this. Maybe we can put our heads together and eliminate most of this:

This was an 11.4 hit that I was able to drive out of the wheel hop, it was still pretty bad though. I think this video really shows what great potential there is if those wheels weren't hopping like that.

Over all I learned a LOT yesterday. Going to start working towards eliminating the hop and working towards making it hook up with more than just a 1,500rpm launch.

Trans is not stock, ill get back to you on the details. B&M shifter.

I was also told today by some people that it is the fastest manual V. Period. If true, chalk one up for the V1s!

It is, but the next closest V2 was just pulley cam tune and removed cats on stock manifolds. There is still a little in it. Replace the subframe bushings with poly bushings and report back. I did a video of my car form underneath, and even with stock power the rear subframe twists around like an overcooked noodle.

ok, the fastest M6 V2 had gone 10.8x so this is actually the fastest M6 run out of both V1 and V2! nice CS has a diff in a record holder.
