Default Recall alert

Looks like they've finally included the CTS-V in with the CTS recall notice. I just so happened to double check this today and saw this pop up under my VIN (it hadn't shown for a while after they first announced the CTS recall).

GM Recall #:
N140172

NHTSA Recall #:
14V394

Date Issued:
Jul 21, 2014

Recall Title:

UNINTENDED KEY ROTATION (PENDING REMEDY) - * DRIVE WITH A SINGLE KEY ONLY *

Recall Description:

General Motors has decided that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in certain 2003-2014 MY Cadillac CTS and 2004-2006 MY Cadillac SRX vehicles. If the key ring is carrying added weight and the vehicle goes off road or experiences some other jarring event, or if the driver unintentionally bumps the key ring or items attached to the key ring with their knee, the key may unintentionally move away from the run position. If this occurs, engine power, power steering and power braking may be affected, increasing the risk of a crash.

Safety Risk Description:

The timing of the key movement out of the run position, relative to the activation of the sensing algorithm of the crash event, may result in the airbags not deploying, increasing the potential for occupant injury in certain kinds of crashes. Customers should remove all items from their key rings, including the key fob, leaving only the ignition key. In addition it is very important that drivers adjust their seat and steering column to allow clearance between their knee and the ignition key.

Repair Description:

Dealers are to provide two replacement key rings. Vehicles with slotted keys will also receive key inserts. This will be provided free of charge.

Status: INCOMPLETE

And how is a new king ring gonna fix the issue? It's not gonna eliminate any keys...

I leave the single key in the ignition in all my vehicles... leaving **** hanging off your ignition tumbler is BAD no matter whose brand of vehicle you're driving.

Push button start would be great. Even if the ignition key had to be present.

I'm interested to know what options they're researching for a fix. It would be nice to have a push button start, or proximity key system, but my guess is that would be far too costly to implement for all of these vehicles.

My key and key fob randomly worked themselves off my other key ring two days ago and I took it as an omen that I should just leave them off. Then I see this thread posted, hahaha. Pretty funny coincidence.

A guy in the non-V '03-07 CTS forum on CF.com did that recently due to problems with his ignition switch. He didn't post any pictures or an actual "how to", just said he had done it because his ign switch was intermittently not starting the car and that it fixed the problem. Key in, turn to ON, push button to start.

If I recall correctly, this is the key chain you're going to get. In other words, don't waste your gas/time.

It would be cool to get a proximity key/push button option. Who knows what they're actually going to do because they're "researching options for one fix for all affected Cadillacs".

My assumption is that means that the option they choose is going to be suitable for up to the 2014 Cadillacs and those guys probably aren't going to be happy with a turn key ignition like what we have in ours.

I would look for them to take the easiest and cheapest way out though.
