*FIXED MY CHECK GAS CAP ERROR AND CEL IS GONE. It was easy but WTF Cadillac!!!
So I've had my CEL along with the infamous check gas cap message come up.
when it first happened, my OEM cap had dry rotted O rings in it. so it made sense to replace it.
I went over to Auto zone and bought a cheap cap, for a month I still had the CEL.
then I hit the dealer and bought their "OEM" cap
-(ACDELCO Part # GT303 Alternate/OEM Part Number(s): 15832215, 25828266) this one has a tether so I was happy.
http://www.rockauto.com/catalog/more...643&cc=1432727
They cleared my light and I drove off. only to notice that I still had a CEL pop up.
so I figured it was a the next thing, an actual leak in my system. I'd have to wait till I had the time and $ to hit the dealer for a legit repair I guess.
well a month ago my Base CTS also had the same issue. on the Base CTS I "cheaped out" and hit Rockauto for a "cheap" cap.
-(ACDELCO Part # 12F58)

**** This morning I got an Idea. I figured I'd throw the Base model cap on the my V and just see how it play out.
and Voila, CEL is gone and no message
I was cross referencing my caps and when I filter out the CTS-V I dont find the cap that worked.
I also noticed that the cap ordered for the V does not work on my Base model. the circumference does not fit... :/
So this is was my fix. I came here to share and maybe some other fellas are having the same issues. and they also can fix it with the cap.

Thats great, I get the same light all the time. Are you sure you have not just gone through the proper cold start cycles for the computer to test the system.
How long has it been since the cap is replaced? My DTC is P0455 which has a lot of variables before it reads the system.
Before the PCM can report DTC P0455 failed, DTC P0496 must run and pass.
DTCs P0107, P0108, P0112, P0113, P0116, P0117, P0118, P0125, P0442, P0443, P0449, P0451, P0452, P0453, P0454,
P0464, P1112, P1114, P1115, P1120, P1133, P1134, P1153, P1154, P1220, P1221 are not set.
The engine is running.
The ignition voltage is between 10-18 volts .
The barometric pressure (BARO) is more than 75 kPa .
The fuel level is between 15-85 percent .
The engine coolant temperature (ECT) is between 4-30°C (39-86°F) .
The intake air temperature (IAT) is between 4-30°C (39-86°F) .
The start-up ECT and IAT are within 9°C (16°F) of each other.
The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is less than 121 km/h (75 mph) .
DTC P0455 runs once per cold start.
I think the once per cold start and the fuel level between 15-85% is what usually keeps my code away for a day or so.

Unfortnatley I am throwing a Large/Gross leak code, which is P0455 and I believe most of the easy stuff has been done (cap, schraeder valve insp, purge/vent valve in engine bay) next I would think is the vent valve and or canister above the rear subframe. .....

I got this part number from philistine:
ACDelco GT276 GM Original Equipment Fuel Tank Cap
The main perk about this cap compared to all the others posted is it has the plastic loop and mounting tab. Maybe the other pictures are deceiving, but I don't think they come with the loop.
