Default 05 cts-v build

JUST JOINED
05cts-v
so i have a blown ls6
*broken pistons
*no damage to the block
everything else is fine
im not looking to boost or anything

Iv been told about 3 types builds..build the ls6..lq4 with my cam and heads...ls9 and squeezz..ls3...ect ect
im looking to reuse my heads, manifold, cams ect...if i find another block

iv heard good things about the lq4 and lq9 about how they can take a beating
and then again a ls3 sounds nice as well.

so pretty much im looking for as much info as i can to make up my mind and what would be best to build
"build" as your wondering of how big i wanna go...well i was happy with the 389hp it was putting out when it ran..so im not looking for crazy 700+ hp ha
maybe a cool 500hp at the most would be nice.
as for budget...im maxing out at 3k....

i have a t56 tans if that helps with answers...
sooo what should i do...rebuild the ls6...or look for another block and just put it back together.
located in Southern California for any blocks for sell

LS6 heads don't go on an LS3 block because of the bore difference. Also, 3k is very very tight for any sort of build. How about an LS2 short block. Your heads will fit just fine and you'll get a little more displacement.

On that budget get a used ls6 or ls2 and get er running. That's only 'build' money if you're a really good DIY guy and saavy enough to make some money off what's leftover.

I'm will track this thread. I wanna see more options. I can flex a little more than 3k. but max at 5-5500. I'd love 550 HP or so.

on my LS6, would some AFR heads get me there? and a cam ofcourse.

Build the ls6. I'm not sure the 3k will get you far on the others even with no labor and if you've got free machine shop work somewhere.

$3k is not going to get you there. I'd get the best shortblock I could find lq4,lm7,ls1,ls2,ls3,etc and install a decent cam and have your heads cleaned up. After lifters, push rods, gaskets, motor mounts, you'll be out of money.

Keep in mind you'll need abou $500 for a tune no matter what you do unless you go back stock displacement.

Cathedral heads will work on an LS3/L92 but knock sensors are different and a PITA.

For 3k..assuming you are doing the labor you will be stuck to finding a stock ls1/6 shortblock. I wouldn't put a stock lq motor in it just because you are adding weight and not really gaining anything other then that.

ls1 and ls6 shortblocks are basically identical(year dependant).

Ls6 will be fine on an ls3... but ported ls6 on an ls3 would rock too. Built short block stroker would be ideal... 243 heads should fit every ls motor... minimum bore sizing isnt gonna work. Ls3 take no less than a 4 inch bore... ls7 take 4.100 bore minimum. Personally id do an iron 404 to 408 with your ls6 heads ported... or 383 with ported ls6. Stock ls3 on a 408 would be nice since you can get a few bux back for ls6 cam intake and tb. Take in that ls3 is a gen 4 set up...so harness and sensors etc change...

Me stock ls3 heads l76 intake car style lq 408... 408 will help deshroud the valves... lq gen 3 block would retain all sensors covers and harness... all will cost close to the same to do... so make the most power

$3k for 550 rwHp, sign me up! It's more like $8-9k plus a clutch. Even then you aren't going to hit 550 without a happy dyno or nitrous.

I would just forge the LS6 and throw a direct port on there with a 150 shot.

A good direct port nitrous set up is pretty expensive. And for only a 150 shot, seems like kind of a waste. You can get to 150+ on a dry shot pretty easily for like 1/4 the price.

Indeed it is, but that is what I would do. You could go with a wet plate kit also.
