Default 275's on stock rims

My 3 piece Forgelines are leaking and I literally just put new tires on them. Question is will 275's fit on the stock rims, may just have the tires mounted on the stockers till I can address the issue.

As isis said, it's not ideal but many people do it. I ran 275/40-18's on stock wheels for 5 years. Running the 275's on a stock 8.5" wheel will still give you more traction than a 245 on that same rim. After widening my stock rims to 10", I now see how people say that it's not ideal. There is way more traction with the correct size wheel for the tire.

Plz! You cant properly install them on 8" wheels, you need 8.5-9.5" wide wheels...

Look up the recommended widths before you try

Well, lucky for all of us, stock wheels are 8.5" wide.

How long have you had them widened and how are they holding up? Are you running 10 inch wide wheels up front as well?

I would bend/roll the inner lip at the forward 10:00 and 2:00 positions.

I've had them installed for 5 months and the wheels themselves are holding up great. They were widened by Weldcraft. I have stock size wheels up front. My car is lowered to 26.5" to the top of the fender lip and I had to clearance the lower spring perches and trailing arms to keep them from machining the inner lip of my widened wheels.

are people putting 275s up front as well or just out back? i still like the thought of being able to rotate tires.

Not when lowered.

I'm stock height and on TD wheels so when I switch the rears to 275 I'm going to test fit them up front. It doesn't look like there's enough room at the inside top of the tire but I did find that my front fenders are already rolled so that was a bonus.

There are 2 issues with running 275/40 up front. All of my experience is with TD wheels but my understanding is the inside of the tire is roughly in the same position with TD wheels as stock wheels given the offset and width differences but the middle and outside are slightly outboard with TD wheels compared to stock.
1. Inside of the tire may rub on the upper heim joint of the front knuckle.
With Team Dynamic wheels its very close with no spacer, I used a file to remove small portion of the heim joint bolt head and cleaned up the area to ensure clearance. This situation doesn't change based on ride height.

2. Outside leading edge of the tire will rub on fender lining at the 3 oclock position looking at passenger side or 9oclock position looking at driver side. This is the larger of the 2 issues as the situation gets worse if you are lowered at all or use full lock. At stock ride height and using TD wheels full lock will rub and if you car is loaded down like in a downhill situation or full of passengers or hit a big bump it will blitz the rivets off the fender lining at the locations mentioned above. If your lowered it seems to get worse and will eventually shred the linings. It may be possible to lower it a lot and get to a better situation than stock height at which point the fender at 12 oclock may be an issue and need to have inner edge bent inward. I didn't try lowering my car more to find if that was possible while running the 275/40 fronts. I actually removed the kwv3 kit and put the stock suspension back due to excessive rubbing and adjusting.

Opinion: 275/40's up front can work but on this car but its not ideal and not worth whatever gain unless you don't care about having fender linings. There was an owner running 275/40 on stock wheels that had similar issues jeffthenail? Actual tires can make or break this as well since they can be different actual size even though the specs are the same.
In general 265/40 is a better option if wanting to run a square setup or 275/35 255/40 if you don't mind running a shorter tire.

If you want a larger tire that you can rotate I have 255/45 all around. It is taller than stock so it gives you more gearing which effectively increases your traction as well. Looks good on stock springs but can't do it if you're lowered up front.

275's are perfect....285's, make out your will, cause it's a killer. I have 285's but, with MAP trl.arms, and stock rims widened to 9 7/8ths.

Thanks for the detailed info. I may just save myself the headache and run the TD wheels with staggered tires. Having our first kid in the spring so probably should reduce any dickin around headaches for a while.

I am the same way since having a kid recently, I did just purchase a square set of conti dw 255/45/18 for next spring on that discount tire deal so hopefully that doesn't land me any new issues other than a under reading speedometer.
