Default Knock Knock...Who's There? Rods...Dangit!

Well, at 129k my daily-driver LS2 that's stock other than a balancer decided to come apart on me yesterday. It sounds like it's thrown a rod/broken a bearing/cap etc.

Now I'm on the hunt for a replacement bottom-end...anybody have a line on anything?

What's your oil pressure? Might want to do a little more troubleshooting first.

The gameplan is to replace all of the bottom-end and oil pump just to be safe. Oil pressure seemed OK but thinking back I believe I was losing oil somewhere faster than the usual 'its an LS and they all do that' amount. Wasn't smoking but I noticed I kept having to add more and more; it may very well have gone low on me and I didn't catch it until it was too late.

I got it on a UHaul trailer this am and dropped it off at the shop. We'll know more once the motor is out of the car. Right now I'm coming up with a plan budget on what I can do at the moment (Read: what the wife will let me get away with we just sold one house and are buying another...perfect).

I'm debating between a couple of the Texas Speed options, I'm thinking LS3 bottom-end, not sure if stock LS3 displacement or bigger. I'll probably just throw my top end plus a cam on it for now; I know it will be a bit choked but it's the fastest/cheapest way I've come up with to get it back on the road.

Turn-around time to get it apart, to the machine shop, and back together is far longer than what I can deal with -- I'm in sales and am in the car all-day, every-day and the better shops around here are backlogged. The shop who will be doing the labor suggested just getting a new one, and hoping for the best with being able to sell/salvage some of the existing parts once the current LS2 is out of it -- with how I use the car I agree.

Oh, and it's okay to laugh; that's what I'm having to do to keep from stabbing myself in the face.

Just do a stock bottom end rebuild, or punch it out a bit. Summit has parts in stock.

If you want a budget build and reliability Id look for a used shortblock personally. Very hard to beat a factory bottom end as far as reliability.

(psst, the guy you're trying to sell a used bottom end to . . . might have bottom end problems on a stock block)
