2010 cts wagon (3.6) burn project underway (V2 lsa swap) not pretty
Hello all, so my bro and I were talking back and fourth about a new gen CtsV wagon how badass they are etc and he mentioned wanting to pick one up (minus the 50k+ price tag).
Well he got a long hair up his a** and recently purchased a cts wagon with a fried engine and front clip for dirt cheap. She ain't pretty and is a bit rough on the eyes but the price was right.
The next purchase a little bit later was a totalled 2012 ctsv sedan from the insurance auction as well that was clearly not repairable (parts only title) but you see where this is going :-).
The shop is making room and is clearing out thier own cars before actually starting the task. We are scheduled for next Monday as a start date and I promise to walk anybody who is interested through it with lots of pics on this thread.
Again she is rough but the shop has seen much worse brought in by us. Feel free to comment and yes I have a pretty thick skin (most criticism does not bother me). However if you are just negative please just keep comments to yourself and move on, Hoping this build can be used to help and motivate others. Well here we go

It's crazy to me that the body shop has seen worse cars that were repairable. That thing looks totaled 3 times over, haha. Anyway, you already know that the motor and trans can fit, so at least you know it's not like shoehorning an LS into a Miata or something. For me, the most daunting task would be the wiring. Just thinking about it makes me sick...unless you will run full standalone and try to retain factory ECU functions for everything else?

Well, I'm just thinking out loud here. First, I'm impressed someone would take on a project of this size!
6 Weeks to build it, so let's say shop charges you for 120 hours (Pulling numbers out of my rear based on 6 weeks in the shop) at let's say $100/hour, so that's $12K in labor plus let's add $5K in paint, parts, misc, so $17K for the body shop.
So now we have the donors, let's say $1K for the wagon and $5K for the V.
So all in, $23K for a rebuilt Vagon with two salvage titles (btw, which title do you end up with?)
KBB shows a 2012 Vagon with 35K miles around $40K
A salvage title has to drop that price down $10K ? So now we are talking $30K for a salvage title Vagon.
So profit of $7K.
Again, just pulling numbers out of thin air.
Am I anywhere close ?

For sure, I really want to know where you looked at finding these two perfect cars to match? Do you scour the yards or look on auctions or what?
I used to use a nice salvage yard that did auctions and fully updated their site, they had some sweeet rides and projects come across the block for sure.
I dont care about how much money you spent but just where you found the cars... And thank you for taking the project on. Not much negative to say about it because these two cars seem like they need to be bred together....and good job on the wiring find.
Dont keep us hanging here! you better pop in here and feed us donkeys a carrot or two!!!

7K isn't a bad profit if you can talk someone into buying it. Not trying to be a dick here but I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole after it were fixed because every, and I mean every, bolt and wire on that car will be touched before its all over. Are the V wagon and the V sedan fuel systems the same? You'll find something you didn't count on, trust me.
Then I'd be a little concerned about what heat does to sheetmetal...that roof lookin a little scary to me. Why does my windshield leak?
I'd part out the cars, make almost the same money and walk away from it because I just wouldn't want my name or reputation professionally attached to a car that's been reconstructed that heavily. You could sell the front clip, the drivetrain and wheels of the V for 12K and scrap the rest for another 500 bucks or so.

Hey guys, i was at work sorry for the absence. To answer a few questions in no particular order be paid 2300 for the wagon inuding auction fees, another 700 for transport, 8900 for the donor, 300 for transport for the donor.
We will still spend another $1500, in misc parts that wont work from the donor car such as a body and dash harness, drivers side curtain airbag, and a headliner.
The shop is charging 4k labor, but we will be the ones physically sandblasting it. He buys from the insurance auction with his friends dads license. All in all should be south of 18k and less than 6 weeks from the time he starts.
