Default Tell us all your problems

I was just thinking about the problems I've had with my car since I bought it and I thought it may make an interesting thread to just list out all of the problems and root cause for everything that has happened to your car since you've owned it. I figure the thread may help people out when they are searching for particular fixes as well and if you see someone where you know what a problem may be you could help out!

Here's the format:

Ownership: 3 years
Mileage when purchased: 60k
Mileage now: 85k

Symptom | Root Cause | Fix
  1. Right Headlight out | Bad Ballast | replace ballast
  2. Car won't start | Melted connection on fuel pump | replace fuel pump
  3. Leaking coolant | Bad water pump.- weep hole leak | replace water pump
  4. Parking brake light not on when engaged | Contact on pedal broke off | replace contact
  5. Diesel noise/Shake on shutdown | Bad motor mounts | replace motor mounts
  6. Fasten seatbelt message | ??? | ???
  7. Check gas cap message/Check engine light | ??? (replaced gas cap) | ???
  8. Right headlight flicker | ??? | ???

I've been able to fix all of these issues in my garage Let's hear your list internet mechanics!

Water pump leaking, new pump.

New motor mounts, the old one were ripped pretty much in half and all the fluid was gone.

Trans mount to fix poor shifting.

Rear subframe bushings to fix 90% of my wheel hop

New clutch and flywheel to take care if the garbage stock dual mass

New master cylinder to disengage said clutch

Flushed the brakes and clutch lines to clean the green mossy **** out if them and refilled with DOT5.

Still have to fix my parking brake release because the wire broke.

Every platform has its flaws. They're good cars overall.

Speaking of the parking brake... Is my car missing a rubber stop, or is it normal that releasing said brake sounds like a goddamn gunshot? I've damn near given walkers-by heart attacks releasing that stupid thing.

Mine sounded the same. Not sure why... Maybe that's why it ended up snapping the cable under the dash

Yes - I live in Colorado. So the car definitely does see some cold. But mind you i don't drive it in the snow or in the road salt. Car is rust free.

Motor mounts and brake lines are not surprising, but the other stuff is downright weird for 57k miles. Master cyls very rarely fail...and the clutch can go 150k easy.

Wait how'd you fix these? i got a new gas cap (the one philistine recommends) and i still get the message but no longer the CEL. My right headlight also flickers and i have no idea what it is but haven't really tried to diagnose it

Those are my still pending issues, so I don't know. I realize I said I fixed them all in my garage, but I meant I did the ones that have been fixed.

I've searched around and it seems to me that if the gas cap doesn't fix it then it's something that's more work to find.

On the headlight a lot of people say it could have to do with wires melting close to the headers or something. Really not sure. Mine happens mostly when I decelerate and sometimes when I accelerate. I need to fix that one pretty soon so I will update if I figure it out.

Easiest way to diagnose the headlight would be to move the bulbs side to side. If problem moves, its the bulb. If not, go back in there and move ballasts side to side. If problem moves, its the ballast. If not, its wiring. If its very consistent (i.e. when you turn the car on, you can just drive it around the block with no bumper to save you time to figure out whats wrong)
