Default Cat question

I have an 07 Ctsv with long tubes and magnaflow. It currently has no cats and won't pass inspection. Can I buy 2 high flow cats and have them installed or do I need to buy the whole piece that bolts to the headers with cats already in them? What size cats would I need and where is a cheap place to get them online?

Visual will fail if it's like California. You moved the cats from the stock location.

Welcome to modified exhaust nightmare #1.

There are no listed cat replacements for the V1.

I had to roll the dice and spent $1500.00 for stainless pipes (B&B) to be modified with cats for and Escalade (same displacement) as the cats supplied from B&B won't pass in CA.

The exhaust guy flat out told me that if it didn't pass, TOO BAD!

The good news is that the emissions are in the mud.

The bad news is that it won't pass visual, because the cats are not listed as being for a CTS-V.

I figure that if I have to go to an arbitrator (they have those in Calif just for this ****) I will pass as I have good intentions.

I don't think many places are like California with these things. In PA the 'visual' is frequently ignored or just 'yep I see a cat' and obdii is easy to pass with a tune. There are no sniffers.

I did all this and the state finally got their act together (after delaying for about 5 years) and now all you have to pass is an OBDII test.

No check engine light and you have a good chance at passing. No sniffer.

No sniffer, just an OBD2 and it has been tuned so no lights. I think it will pass as long as it has cats on it. I found some magnaflow high flow cats 3" in and out for like 80 each on eBay. I think I am going to try them.

heavymetals, I think that you might be in error somewhat if you are talking 2000 & newer vehicles.

OBDI II requires Computer verification, and I don't think that you are allowed any fails or opens, visual, & the technician can sniff at his discretion.
This is what I believe to be correct.

The computer obdii is the easy part. The sniff is rare. The visual is slightly harder than the computer. The CARB technicalities are a big pain. Heavy has been through it and came out the other side

I have owned like 8 performance cars without cats and never failed maryland emissions. 99.9% of the workers never actually look for them. This goes for my brother and countless friends as well.

If it is a state inspection to be able to get tags you will fail though because the car goes on a lift.

If you are talking about emissions run it through and i bet itll pass if it doesnt have a check engine light.

I just had the smog test done on my Vette, whom I refer to as Mr. Vette, the name I "borrowed" from Sam Kinison.

An 03 Z06 it was just plug in, no check engine light and it passed.

Just like the way it was supposed to be when they passed the law like 6 years ago!

Duck soup is a reference to how easy it was.

You know how to make duck soup?

Boiling water and a dead duck.

I'm in MD and as long as there are not DTC's and it doesn't stink to high hell, you're good. The emissions techs have no idea what a cat converter looks like.

I am sure it will pass emissions but it did fail the inspection process because they put it on a lift.
