Default How hard to drop the diff on V1?

Having difficulty with the damn diff bushing. What tools do I need to pull the axles and drop the diff, anything special?

Nothing special. Common hand tools + a big *** socket for the axle nuts.

If it's just the diff bushing, you can replace without dropping the diff. You just need a 21mm (IIRC) ratcheting wrench for the back two bolts. Drop the exhaust for some room, support the diff, back the two back bolts most of the way out, then take the front bolt all the way out. I used the CS tool to get the old bushing out and press the new one in. Works great.

+1 on using the Creative Steel tool.

85 nm (63 ft/lb) for (6) propshaft to diff bolts.

Don't know if this link will work: http://fbdylvr.thruhere.net:9001/servlets/BlobShtml?ShtmlFile=1350659&evc=sm&pubid=888&cellI d=55284&mspsdsubkey=4152

You'll probably need an impact gun for the axle nuts. I think they're either 33 or 34mm. I couldn't get them off with a breaker bar when I attempted last.

x3 on the CS tool though. Much easier than removing the differential if you're working out of your garage.

I am just gonna lower my diff so its out of the way and use my hydraulic puller to yank them nasty rubber bushings out and pull in the new green poly bushings...

12 tons should be enough, mind you my tub is 1/4 of its original size

On the other hand, the first time I went to pull the axles the nuts weren't even hand tight!

I've torqued them to spec on reassembly each time since but I can still remove them with a breaker bar.

I used the CS tool and the damn bearing still got stuck, the new one. I had it going in but didn't have it clocked right so went to remove and it stopped moving. I applied some gorilla force and the tool started to shave aluminum off the diff housing as it walked off, even though it started off straight. Need to drop the diff to get space to get leverage on it. Is the J44394 tool really needed?

I did mine in the car, no special tools needed. Didn`t even pull the axles. I did it without the 21mm ratchet wrench but it did take a long time to get the back bolts out.

Also I used an energy suspension bushing so I didn`t even have to press out the old steel shell. http://www.cadillacforums.com/forums...iy-option.html worked out really well for me.

Well, finally got this thing done. Took a couple days away from it to reset, came back at it rested, not angry, and during the daylight. Amazing what a difference that makes, eh? Just applied the brain, used a small pry bar as a spacer, and pop! Done. Soaked the bushing in ice water for a half hour, lubed it up...went right in.

Good to know that putting it on ice helped. I will be sure to put mine in the freezer for a day or two before attempting the install. My diff is out and lying on the floor though so it should be a cake walk.
