Default philistine master cylinder is for real.

You are going to reluctantly spend 300 dollars on it. You are going to get it and assemble it to install it.

You'll cut the **** out of your hands. Probably dump brake fluid out on the floor. You'll bleed. You'll probably want to take your driver's side seat out of the car if you are an ogre like myself.

You'll probably bitch at Jaysen and want to kill him and send it back. You'll go through a ******* **** load of misery and grief. It's the way she goes. **** this job, it's the most frustrating thing I've ever done to this car.

Moreso than the 8.8, engine, and clutch. Combined.

After all the bullshit, it's worth it.

It completely changes the dynamics of pressing the clutch in. When you try to put it in gear, it doesn't block you out. It goes into gear so easily you'll wonder if your shifter came undone.

When in traffic, there's no rolling or pumping to get it in first anymore.

I nearly had a stroke from fury, but it was worth it. This is probably the best 300 dollars I've ever put into the vehicle.

When you buy a used cts-v 1, you need to do the shifter and the master cylinder in the parking lot before you ever own the thing. That's how critical it is. I cannot stress it enough.

PM philistine right ******* now. You need this.

This makes me smile.

I removed the seat. I have no idea how any one would do this job otherwise.

With that said I don't think this is a job for the average shade tree mechanic either. But, like you said worth every penny and blood pressure point.

Nik what is your height and weight? I'm 6'3" and around 235. I think I'm about 5 inches too big to do it without the seat pulled. On the plus side, I found a 10 dollar bill and 3.23 in change. Too bad the girlfriend was asleep or I would have scrubbed the carpet with the steamer.

You need to PM philistine on the forum. He modifies a wilwood unit to fit into the first generation cts-v.

I need to go back under my dash tomorrow. Took it for a spin tonight and can hear my clutch switch creaking.

What makes the install of this unit so hard? Judging my first post sounds like a pain in the ***.

On my scale of shitty jobs, I put it at less shitty than doing head gaskets, but shittier than pulling the transmission (kinda, depends).

I spent 2 hours just cleaning parts and gasket surfaces.

This post -- more than anything else I've read -- has me convinced that I need to do this assuming I'm keeping my car past this summer.

Thanks, RADEoN.

I need to do mine. I said that about 6 months ago, too. My current setup is shitty, and I look forward to what the PMC will do to fix it.

Installing it was a pain in the *** but I've done worse things. Its been the clutch safety switch that has been haunting me. About a month after I installed the PMC, the SES light came on, adjusted switch, light went out, a month later its back on, replace switch, light off, 3 months later light back on, adjust, it goes out for a while and just today the freaking them came back on again.

The harness connector for the switch is buried too deep in the dash to really get any readings off it and I don't think you can just bypass it so until I get around to messing with it again, I'll have no cruise and an SES to stare at for 150 miles a day...

You may want one of these if you can't get the wiper arm off...mine was welded on.

I tried a cheaper one from pep boys and it folded like a wet noodle.
