Default damn headlight washers

i have done a little searching but could not find this exact issue. it just happened last night and i verified the issue is still present this morning.

driving home last night out of the blue the washers just started going constantly. i got home and shut the lights off and they obviously stop. i have read where the motor is and people say just unplug the damn things. I also noticed that now my windshield washer does not squirt fluid. it had always worked so i am curious the relation. fuse? relay? bad motor or electrical?

pull the fuse for the motor and they won't work anymore.

i'm going to assume the tank is low and that's why your windshield washer squirters aren't working.

i read the windshield and headlight washers share a relay. is that not true? if not which fuse is for the headlights? does the headlight pump sit lower in the tank than the windshield? seems i would want my windshield working after rather than the other way around. engineers are so smart.

my windsheild sprayers work fine. the headlight sprayers don't do anything.

pull the fuse. 30A in the upper right corner above the fuse puller.

Pretty sure I just pulled a fuse or relay under the hood to kill my headlight washers. Windshield aquatics are all still fully functional.

Did you do any troubleshooting on them? Can the motors be replaced?

I would make an attempt to keep them, it's the simple things and I'm easily amused..........

well in typical Cadillac fashion on my drive home yesterday everything was back to normal. windshield washers worked and headlight washers stopped being crazy. i did not add fluid or change anything. i will look into it.

the washer fluid breaks down the lens and helps to make them look like crap anyway. disabling them helps to keep the finish on the headlights for a longer period of time.

Good point! Is there only one pump for the washer system or is there 2?

there has to be two or you couldn't disable one without the other not working as well.

I just saw where AAIIC plugged his headlight washer line instead of finding a pump to unplug...just curious.

Passenger side pump is for the windshield. Before my OE pump failed, it kept loosing its prime. I believe there is a check valve inside the pump to keep it from gravity draining. Mine was bleeding down, so I was able install a check valve from a Suburban rear washer in the line so the squirters pump right away.

I just had the washer pump for the windshield stop working, and at the same time, if I turn on the headlights, they will be getting continuously washed. If anyone has experienced something like this, please let me know how you fixed the issue.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Pulled the headlight washer relay out of the underhood fuse box.
