Hi! I have an '05 Cadillac CTS and I don't know what's the problem it has when I try to start it. It does not click or start but the dash lights stay on. I can jump start it from the starter relay so I know nothing's wrong with the starter. The battery and alternator are fine because I got them tested. So, besides all those things, I don't know what can be the problem. Can someone help me?

^^^ There's some help.

How old is the battery? Can you jump start the car the normal way (in other words, not by bypassing the starter relay, but by hooking up jumper cables from a running car to the battery)?

My opinion is if you can jump start the solenoid on the starter like you said... But not any other way.. then it sounds like an ignition thing. Doesn't sound like a security issue with the chip in the key or it wouldn't fire off when you manually jumped it either.... Maybe you have a blown ignition fuse or something. Check all those. Try to jump it with just cables on another vehicle like stated above. Do steps to diagnose and find out what does and doesn't work. My guess is a blown fuse, or bad ignition switch not making the proper connection.

Re reading your post... You said jump start it from the starter relay... Do you mean the starter solenoid on the starter itself...Or the starter relay in the fuse box??

Have you tried swapping the starter relay with another relay? Had a diesel truck where key wouldn't start but we could leave the key on and jump the temrinals for the starter relay and it would startup.. new relay fixed the problem.

He said the car is a CTS.. I always assume automatic.. pretty rare to have a manual CTS. But yes if it is, that's a possibility.

Could be the brake switch? Still I don't recall if you said the car would start when you jumpered it? Or if it just cranked?

To check if it's starts...Turn key on... Jump the starter relay like you have and it should fire up.
