Default ATTN TECHS...ABS/TCS problem

Hello guys...

I have this darned car and it's killing me. We are working on a 2004 CTS 3.6L and the ABS/TCS malfunction light comes on after about 2 minutes of driving. There is a code for a RF wheel speed sensor circuit. I've changed it with a dealer part, and the same thing happens. We've checked all the wiring and connectors to and from the sensors and the ABS module. Everything checks out, and continuity in the RF sensor harness is good. I'm statring to think it's the actual module itself. I'll put another module in it if i HAVE to, but it's $900 and not returnable.

Any ideas???

THanks in advance, Peter

Similar here, dealer said one of the main harness plugs was loose. Drvs. side, shock tower near exhaust manifold. 2 big separate plugs.

Whats the code?

"circuit codes usually means something is unplugged/cut/shorted. Send me the code, and i'll research it for you.

ok i dont have the exact code right now...i had to send her on her way until i came up with something. researching the code myself, we checked ALL the connections and i even replaced the RF sensor. we have good continuity from the sensor to the connector at the module. I'm really starting to wonder if it's the damned module.

no more like trying to determine if my abs module is bad and if I have to reprogram it if I replace it.

Generally speaking if it were a continuity problem the code will set without driving... Since it is coming on after you start driving I would check the tone ring for anything that would cause a discrepancy in the signal... Like damaged teeth or debris

Out of curiosity, how long did it take you to find this thread?

I'm having a similar problem and since we already brought the thread back from the dead once, i figure whats wrong with a second time.

At least i cant get yelled at for not using the search.

So here's what mine is doing, with increasing frequency it sets the TCS / ABS light after starting to drive. Needs to go at least 100ft. There are no faults preset on my scanner and i show good WS signals from all 4 wheels that match the vs. Yet when i clear faults the lights go off.

Things i have noticed. ABS Vbatt appears to be low (11.5-12.5) when info pannel says 14.0 or 13.9. Also there is a parameter in the scanner showing "road roughness (g)" which I assume is using some sort of "g" meter to feed info to the abs about the type of surface the car is on. When the lights come on this value is pinned to 99. When the lights are off its moving around 0-30ish. I have no way to tell if this is the cause of the fault or if this is a symptom of the fault.

Can anyone indicate what they are seeing for abs vbatt?

Long shot here but something to maybe check... Under the rear driver's sail panel is a couple big connections...When I had my car ignition on and was messing in that area and started to unhook that connection I got TCS and abs warning lights, service this service that warnings... So maybe check for loose connections there?

It won't take much time to check the sail panel so I'll hit that first. Of course today to and from work the lights stayed off.

I'm beginning to think it's moisture related, which means it's outside the car somewhere.

more info to follow...

I had all kinds of crazy errors in my TCS system, and it totally quit working.

Turns out the wire harness to the BPP switch had issues and a few cut wires. Had me chasing my tail for quite some time.

The other thing that helped a ton is cleaning up the connection to the computer with contact cleaner and applying avionics grade CPC to the connection.

Have you tried to hook a tech 2 up?

Well, i think ill be parking it for winter as i have my jeep back up and running, ill try to go trough most of the connectors with cleaners and contact grease and see if that solves it. If i find the smoking gun ill report back
